Pokémon GO has transitioned into the Season of Light, and along with a whole new roadmap, Trainers can already jump into a new Special Research story, A Cosmic Companion. This season-long research story promises new Legendary cosmic encounters that haven't been seen in-game, including Cosmog.

Like in previous seasons, the Season of Light will last for three months, starting on 1st September 2022 and concluding on 1st December 2022. This guide provides all the details on the seasonal Special Research story and its rewards for Pokémon GO.

26th November 2022 Update: We have updated this Special Research guide to include the last batch of tasks that became available at the start of the Astral Eclipse event.

The Season of Light introduces Trainers to a Cosmic Pokémon, Cosmog, which you can learn more about through the Special Research story, A Cosmic Companion. Starting from 1st September 2022 at 10 am local time, you will have access to all available tasks Professor Willow has made available to you from the Map View menu.

Throughout the season, more tasks will be unlocked for you in which you can complete their task to earn various rewards. If you've claimed the Research story before the season ends, the tasks can still be completed after the season has passed.

The Special Research story revolves around Cosmog and its evolutions, for which none have been made available at the start of the season. As you progress through the story, you’ll be able to claim a Cosmog as a reward for completing the first page of the Research story.

As mentioned before, Cosmog can evolve to Cosmoem; however, it cannot evolve to its other evolutions throughout the season in Pokémon GO. This changed with the Astral Eclipse event as Solgaleo and Lunala, Cosmoem’s final evolutions, were made available at the event's start.

This was due to the season's conclusion, culminating in the Ultra Beast Arrival event. If you have saved enough Cosmog Candies and completed the Collection Challenges for the Astral Eclipse event, you can evolve to Solgaleo (during the daytime) or Lunala (during the nighttime).
