How to evolve Stantler in Pokémon Legends Arceus

Stantler was one of several Pokémon to receive a new secondary evolution in Pokémon Legends: Arceus. The Hisui region was hiding many new evolutions, such as one for Tangela among many others. While players might know Stantler as the Generation II Pokémon, it has a whole new purpose in Pokémon Legends: Arceus. Once players evolve Stantler into its new evolution, Wydeer, they will gain the ability to use it in battle along with riding around on it. 

Players will get the ability to ride Wydeer fairly early on in Pokémon Legends: Arceus. However, they won’t be able to use the Pokémon in battle until they catch a Stantler and evolve it into Wydeer. So players can have a Wydeer for battling in their party and then call upon another Wydeer to ride around the lands of Hisui.

Finding and evolving Stantler in Pokémon Legends: Arceus

Before players can try to evolve Stantler in Hisui, they need to catch one first. Stantler has three separate spawn locations in Pokémon Legends: Arceus, all of which are easily accessible. 

The first location is in Coronet Highlands at Wayword Wood. Stantler is found at levels 18-38 here and is a common encounter. The second location is in Cobalt Coastlands at Windbreak Stand while the third location is in Obsidian Fieldlands at Deertrack Heights. Stantler is found at the same levels at these locations and is also a common encounter.

With Stantler in the party, players need to do one specific thing in order to trigger its evolution. Players are required to use the move Psyshield Bash 20 times in Agile Style while in battle. This is a strange evolution but not different from other evolution methods in Pokémon Legends: Arceus. 

Once players have met that requirement, they can manually evolve Stantler into Wydeer. There is currently no other way to acquire Wydeer, so players will have to take the time to use the move in Agile Style. It’s recommended to try and catch a Stantler at the highest possible level to make this process a little simpler. 

Wydeer gains the Psychic-type upon its evolution, along with keeping Stantler’s base Normal-type. This gives the Pokémon access to some interesting move combinations. However, Wydeer is a bit of a glasshouse, with poor Defense and Special Defense. It’s also not very fast, which is strange considering players use it to ride around the lands of Hisui. The rest of its stats are fairly normal.
