PlayStation 5 release dates announced for November, priced £449

Sony has announced the release date and pricing of the PlayStation 5, staggering the launch over two separate dates around the world.
PlayStation 5 release dates announced for November, priced £449

Sony’s PlayStation 5 has been confirmed to release in November across two separate dates, priced at £449.99.

After months of speculation, the company finally spilled all the launch information around the PlayStation 5 during a special showcase event on Wednesday 16th September.

Released in two separate versions, the PS5 digital version (without a disc drive) will be priced £359.99/$399.99 while the edition with a disc drive is priced at £449.99/$499.99.

The console however will have a staggered launch, releasing in US, Japan, Canada, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand and South Korea first on 12th November.

The console will then release 19th November for other territories, including UK and the rest of the Europe.

Following the presentation, the official PlayStation Twitter account stated PS5 pre-orders would be available starting tomorrow from “select retailers” - without specifying which.

In other words, keep a close eye on online retailers tomorrow for your best chance at snagging a console.

A new service for PlayStation Plus subscribers was also announced for PS5 titled PlayStation Plus Collection - which appears to be Sony's equivalent to Microsoft's Xbox Games Pass.

Subscribers to the service will be able to download a number of PS4 titles at the PS5's launch, including God of War, Uncharted 4, Persona 5, Bloodborne and Monster Hunter World.

The prices feel surprisingly reasonable in comparison to the Xbox Series X and Series S too, considering the digital version of the PS5 isn't a downgrade in specs like the latter.

This follows Microsoft announcing prices for their Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S consoles, which are both set to launch on 10th November.

While Microsoft’s machine doesn’t quite have the exclusive pulling power, it’s extremely competitive in value - offering hundreds of games available at launch through Games Pass Ultimate and monthly payment options.
