HBO released official footage for the video game adapted series, The Last of Us, following the series premiere of House of the Dragon. It's almost two years since game developer Naughty Dog announced the project in 2020, with an update provided during this year's Summer Game Fest.

With numerous video and photo leaks online, fans saw the show's leads bring these endearing characters to life, which has sparked much attention. While the footage didn't provide enough information on the show's premise, we still don't have a confirmed release date.

Viewers tuned in to the much-anticipated premiere of the Game of Thrones prequel series, House of the Dragon, on 21st August 2022 on streaming service HBO Max. They were treated to a promotional video in which the cable network, Home Box Office (HBO), promoted several upcoming projects.

One of these projects is the live-action adaptation of Naughty Dog's action-adventure game, The Last of Us, based on the video game of the same name. The footage is the first exclusive preview of the series, which is scheduled to premiere sometime in 2023 on the streaming service.

The series, which stars former Game of Thrones stars Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey as Joel and Ellie, who are trying to survive an unrelenting apocalyptic United States. Set 20 years following a plague that nearly wiped out the human species, a survivor gets sent on a mission to smuggle a young from a military-controlled area.

The footage highlights key features that are carried over from the video games, including the infected spores, familiar characters, and settings. Some of the scenes for the series used for the promotional clip mirror similar moments from the video game, including Joel's iconic line, "You have no idea what loss is."

The Last of US game director Neil Druckmann shared his excitement on social media when he tweeted after the footage debuted. "You ain't seen nothing yet" could indicate that there are plenty more surprises that anticipated audiences in the coming months.

Joel and Ellie's voice actors Troy Baker and Ashley Johnson will have pivotal roles in the series alongside Jeffery Pierce, who voiced Tommy in the video games. However, the role of Tommy for The Last Of Us series will be played by Marvel's Agents of SHIELD and Terminator: Dark Fate star Gabriel Luna with Nick Offerman as Bill.

Some other projects featured in the HBO Max promotional video included Succession, The White Lotus, and Our Flag Means Death. HBO nor Naughty Dog have announced an official release date for the upcoming series, which we'll endeavor to provide more updates once more reliable information is available.
