WB Games announces $100k MultiVersus Evo tournament

The upcoming free-to-play platform fighter already has plenty to offer to competitive communities with an event at the grandest stage of them all.
WB Games announces $100k MultiVersus Evo tournament

Despite not having launched, MultiVersus developer Player First Games have made sure the fighting game community is interested in their upcoming free-to-play platform fighter by announcing a $100k 2v2 tournament at Evo 2022. The news came on 12th May 2022 as the developer revealed a MultiVersus Closed Alpha period where players can try out the entire initial roster, plenty of game modes, and online play, which promises a smooth experience with top of the line rollback netcode.

With the absence of Smash Bros from this year's Evo lineup, it seems platform fighter fans and those interested in the vast crossover happening within MultiVersus, with Warner Bros' most renowned franchises coming together, will still have something to look forward to.

MultiVersus $100k Evo tournament announced

"MultiVersus is headed to EVO with a 2v2 tournament hosted by WB Games awarding the top 32 teams!" the tweet from the MultiVersus Twitter account reads. While MultiVersus won't take part in Evo as one of their featured games, the event organisers allow for side-events to take place, with this tournament sponsored by WB Games being the biggest out of these to be announced.

The news of a MultiVersus side event at Evo has sparked interest from many FGC and Smash community members, who have publicly acknowledged the tournament and hinted at their participation. Smash Ultimate icon Leonardo "MkLeo" López tweeted out: "Who am I seeing in Vegas?" receiving a response from none other than Evo legend Dominique "SonicFox" McLean: "I hope to challenge you on the battlefield."

If Player First Games and WB Games allow fans to see those sorts of dream matches at Evo 2022, it may have the potential to join the current lineup of games at Evo if the tournament were to be a success. Regardless, we're sure the competitive scene will flourish massively as long as Player First Games and WB Games maintain the momentum as we advance up to the official release.
