Herschel "Guy" Beahm aka Dr Disrespect announced a new AAA game development studio called Midnight Society back in mid-December 2021. The studio has already started work on its first title, a PvP shooter built from the ground up using the power of Unreal Engine 5. Now, a Halo veteran, Darren Bacon, has joined the expanding team as the Studio Art Director.

Midnight Society already features some industry veterans in the form of its co-founders, namely Dr Disrespect, Robert Bowling, Quinn DelHoyo, and Sumit Gupta.

In a press release, it was announced that Darren Bacon is joining the team as Studio Art Director. For those who don't know, Mr Bacon is fresh off his work on Halo Infinite as the Associate Art Director.

Darren Bacon has over 15 years of experience in the game and film industry, working on films for Walt Disney Company, as well as iconic video games such as Destiny, Halo 5: Guardians and Command and Conquer.

In a new Midnight Society post, Darren Bacon talked about why he was drawn to the studio, specifically mentioning Dr Disrespect.

Darren Bacon explains: "The Day One Community development style is really interesting - to build a game with the community is fascinating and forward-thinking. So much of the time, being a AAA game studio in the past was about making a game with a singular vision holder or team who prints it to a disk and ships it to consumers. It’s either a success or it’s not.

I think transitioning to an open development cycle where you build a game with the community will be really neat. You could prototype an equipment piece and put it in the hands of players before you invest a ton of resources into it. I’m also excited to work in Unreal Engine 5 and collaborate with a passionate team and community.

I’ve heard Dr Disrespect talk on stream many times about his frustrations with the content that comes out of AAA game studios, and he’s like, 'okay let’s do it ourselves.' I don’t think anyone else could do it but him."

Midnight Society isn't done hiring either. The studio is currently looking for an experienced Tech Director, and we can't help but wonder who will join next.

We can't wait to see Midnight Society's first title reveal and with the addition of Halo veteran Darren Bacon as the Studio Art Director, we are likely in for a visual feast!
