League of Legends: Wild Rift has been out for several months, except for the Americas, but that is all set to change with the release of v2.2, scheduled for 31st March, and which is set to introduce five new champions, a brand new event to help the new regions get up to speed, and many quality-of-life additions.

There is also the introduction of a fan favourite game mode, ARAM, as well as a test of a new system that hopes to improve the matchmaking system and, of course, new skins.

Here is everything you need to know.

North and South America release - Wild Welcome

With all the other regions having had access to the game since September onwards, those already playing have had time to complete challenges and events and unlock champions. Riot are conscious of this fact and so on the launch of Wild Rift in North and South America, a new event will begin called Wild Welcome that will speed-up the process by which you can unlock characters.

More details are announced but it will be music to the ears of those that have been patiently waiting for launch.

Five new champions

Riot have heard the community loud and clear and are looking to add more monster type champions.

They will be familiar to those that have played League of Legends and five in total will be added to the game with the release of v2.2, they are:

  • Galio
  • Rammus
  • Kha'Zix
  • Rengar
  • Renekton

Some of the new champions will be central in the game's next event Masters of the Hunt which pitches Kha'Zix and Rengar against each other as they battle for supremacy.

Wild Rift's item pool increased

Wild Rift v2.2 will look to bring the game more in-line with its big brother on PC with items given icons that more closely resemble those in the original game.

The developers are also expanding the item pool with Frozen Heart, Force of Nature and Sunfire Aegis all being added for tank players.

There are more details, which we go into in our Wild Rift v2.2 item explainer.

Quality of Life

Riot has been continually improving the QoL and adding new things all the time and v2.2 is no different with a new ping system, as well as a clearer and more player-friendly matchmaking system that Riot is calling "Position Preference", basically before queueing you can select what role you would like to play and the matchmaking will attempt to put you into a suitable team.

The feature is starting as a test, and may not be fully-implemented with Riot waiting to see how it works in practice.

Wild Pass

Wild Rift will also be getting a battle pass system, aptly named the Wild Pass. Players can level it up and unlock exclusive skins and other cosmetics.

There is a free and paid track with the free track allowing players to earn blue motes and poro coins.

You can upgrade your Wild Pass to the premium Wild Pass Elite at any time. The Elite Pass will unlock the first five levels, as well as extra challenges that will make it easier to complete.

We will update this page with the full patch notes on the day of launch.
