The Ruin is about to arrive in League of Legends.

After weeks full of teasers and leaks around the story of the Ruined King, Riot has finally confirmed a new themed event focused on the battle between the Sentinels of Light against Viego and his Black Mist.

Let’s take a look at some of the things we can expect to see as part of the Ruin’s arrival in the Rise of the Sentinels event, bringing a new story into the League of Legends lore with the debut of the Lost Sentinel, and more skins to come.

Rise of the Sentinels: Ultimate Spellbook mode

In Rise of the Sentinels, the flames of Ruin will make their way across Runeterra, where players will have to fight around a battlefield in the shape of the Shadow Isles, alongside a new limited-time game mode, Ultimate Spellbook.

The Ultimate Spellbook will give everyone the chance to fight inside the Ruined Rift, with every single champion enabled in a blind pick queue. However, its twist comes with the addition of the Ult-ernate Summoner Spells, as players will have to pick a random Ultimate as their second Summoner Spell.

This game mode will feature lots of changes around stats, levelling, and even some changes to epic monsters like the Drakes. You can learn more about the Ultimate Spellbook in our first preview.

Rise of the Sentinels: More Ruined skins

As the Black Mist starts to expand around Runeterra, some iconic champions have started to suffer the effects of fighting against it, as we have seen with the release of Ruined skins for Karma, Draven, and Shyvana, which have been confirmed to be canon by one of Riot’s writers.

The arrival of the Black Mist to other realms in Runeterra will bring some other additions into the Ruined skin line, with a new skin practically confirmed for a Demacian champion, as it has been the next region affected by the Ruination in Riot’s latest teaser.

Some other regions that may have suffered from the Black Mist passage (according to teasers from the Champion Roadmap) include Shurima and the Freljord, however we might see champions from the most unexpected places to fall into the curse of the Ruin, as the battle it against will demand sacrifices.

For now, we will have to wait to see which champions will fall in the hands of the Ruin. Besides, there could be someone out there, waiting to fight against them.

Rise of the Sentinels: Akshan, the Lost Sentinel

It’s no surprise the debut of the next champion around Viego’s lore will be happening as part of this event, as this new character will join Senna and Lucian in their war against him, being one of the lost Sentinels of Light.

Akshan will be a mid laner unit with marksman skills, similar to Tristana and Corki, with good flexibility and with skills that allow him to move into the side lanes to help his teammates.

New Sentinels joining the fight

As the new event links directly to the Sentinels of Light, we will see more champions from all around Runeterra joining them, as they battle against the advance of the Ruin, and Viego’s ambition to find the pieces of Isolde’s soul.

To refresh your mind a little, here you can see the start of this dark journey where Lucian and Senna made their first stance against Viego.

As of now, the following champions have been confirmed to be part of the Sentinels of Light, thanks to both the teaser shown in a secret puzzle, and the new batch of content added into the PBE on the last few weeks:

  • Lucian
  • Senna
  • Akshan
  • Diana
  • Irelia
  • Olaf
  • Riven
  • Vayne
  • Gwen
  • Graves
  • Pyke
  • Rengar

Most of the features for the event will be added into the PBE in the next few days, as Riot has confirmed the Rise of the Sentinels will begin on 8th July, so it’s just a matter of time to finally see everything they have prepared for this next page on the Ruined King’s story.
