Where Is Octavian The Militia Captain In V Rising?

Octavian the Militia Captain in V Rising is located in the Bastion of Dunley, situated to the north of the Dunley Farmlands biome. This area is easy to find, as it's directly above the centermost Vampire Waygate east of the Farmer's Market, but it is filled with many soldiers that you will have to defeat. Once you have cleared the Bastion, go to the back area.

You will find Octavian, the Militia Captain in V Rising, waiting for you here. It is advised that you pursue this boss during the nighttime as the arena offers no sun protection. En route to the Bastion of Dunley, there's also a chance you can run into Jade the Vampire Hunter and Vincent the Frost roaming the Dunley Farmlands area, so remain vigilant.

V Rising: How To Beat Octavian The Militia Captain

Octavian the Militia Captain in V Rising is a Level 58 Blood Carrier that holds the keys to the late game. As such, you will need to have a comparable Gear Score of 55+ when taking him on. Additionally, this battle will primarily be a melee exchange, in which case Brute Blood (40%+ Blood Quality) is recommended. This Blood Type is critical because it provides Life Leech, Attack Speed buffs, and boosted healing and movement speed.

Warrior Blood (50%+) is a notable alternative for this exchange. Here, Warrior Blood offers increased Physical Power, weapon skill cooldown reduction, damage reduction, and a chance to parry attacks. In both cases, these bonuses help keep your HP up and ultimately increase your chance of beating Octavian in V Rising. Separately, we recommend using the Veil of Illusion or Veil of Chaos Travel Abilitie since they allow you to recast the ability mid-fight.

Defensive Spells

Now that we have covered the basics, let's get into the spells you need to defeat Octavian the Militia Captain in V Rising. Chaos Barrier is highly recommended for defensive spells as it will allow you to survive his punishing melee attacks while inflicting Ignite to deal damage over time. However, this spell is only unlocked after beating Angram the Purifier (Level 60 boss), so you likely won't have access to it.

As a result, Phantom Aegis is a solid alternative, as it provides a powerful damage block and has a push-back effect. However, the best reason is that it can also be cast on allies, making it a lifesaver for troubled friends. As an honorable mention, Ward of the Damned (unlocked by killing the Level 44 boss Kriig the Undead General) is also useful because each blocked attack summons a skeleton that can de-aggro and damage Octavian.

Offensive Spells

Now let's get into the damage! Bone Explosion is great here as it releases an AOE of Unholy magic that each deals 140% magic damage and applies Condemn. This debuff is great when you have multiple allies, as it increases enemies' damage by 15% for 5 seconds. Chaos Volley (unlocked after beating Lidia the Chaos Archer) is our second choice because it also inflicts Ignite.

Tip: If you are doing this fight as a duo, we recommend that one player equips Chaos Volley and the other Bone Explosion. The Condemn debuff stacks with Ignite, meaning Octavian the Militia Captain will take even more damage.

Octavian's Moveset

At the start of the fight, Octavian the Militia Captain in V Rising will perform fairly damaging melee attacks and rush you down. These attacks are evadable or blocked using one of the defensive spells mentioned. At first, it may seem like Ocatvian has no ranged attacks, but don't be fooled. He can close the gap fast, and his sword has a powerful projectile attack that may catch you off guard.

That said, it's best to continue damaging him while dodging his attacks. Not long after, Octavian will call for backup, summoning Archers into the fight to compensate for the seeming lack of ranged attacks. Here, we recommend killing these Archers as fast as possible. These annoying NPCs will chip away at your health while reducing your movement by setting the arena on fire with their flaming arrow attacks, making contending with Octavian all the more challenging.

Once you've reduced Octavian the Militia Captain's HP to about half, he will spin around in a whirlwind, dealing massive damage. At the same time, he will release spinning sword projectiles, making surviving particularly difficult. At this stage of the fight, most players often die here merely because of the sheer insanity of Octavian's damage. However, after this move, he will need time to recover, standing motionless for several seconds. This is where you will need to unload all your spells and ultimate abilities to avoid having to survive that assault again.

V Rising: Octavian The Militia Captain Rewards

After defeating Octavian the Militia Captain in V Rising, you will receive the Raging Tempest Ultimate Ability – a powerful spell from the Storm magic school. This new ability will allow you to dash forward and bounce between nearby enemies, striking them for 525% magic damage split across the targets within the area for 3s. Additionally, Raging Tempest strikes all enemies in the area up to 4 times, dealing 40% magic damage and inflicting the Static debuff. Afterward, you will jump toward your target direction.

The second reward you will get is the crafting recipe for the Dawnthorn Regalia, a high-tier armor set that you will be able to craft at the Tailoring Bench. This armor is required to craft the Bloodmoon Battlegear later on, further augmenting your character's Gear Score. The final reward you will get is Wide Castle Entrances and Gates. This is useful for larger Castles and is primarily for cosmetic purposes. And that's everything to know about defeating Octavian the Militia Captain in V Rising!
