Wo Long Fallen Dynasty All Five Phases Explained

Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty is an upcoming action RPG from the team behind the Nioh games. The fans of Team Ninja's last two endeavors should feel right at home though there are plenty that makes Wo Long its own beast.

One of the most distinctive features of Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty is the addition of Elemental Phases. These Phases offer unique gameplay opportunities and favor different playstyles. If you're planning to dive into Wo Long, here's everything you need to know about its five Phases.

The five Phases in Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty are:

  • Wood Virtue: Affects HP and the amount of Spirit lost when attacked
  • Fire Virtue: Affects the amount of Spirit gained when attacking, and the amount of Spirit consumed by Martial Arts
  • Earth Virtue: Affect the equipment weight limit and the amount of Spirit gained when deflecting an attack
  • Metal Virtue: Affects the duration that a high level of Spirit can be maintained for, and the Spirit consumed by Wizardry Spells.
  • Water Virtue: Affects how easily enemies can detect you and the amount of Spirit consumed when deflecting.

Investing in any Phase will also unlock the respective Phase's Wizardry Spells. Casting Wizardry Spells provide active and passive buffs. As you can see, every Elemental Phase favors a different playstyle. For example, the Fire Phase is suited for a more aggressive playstyle that encourages you to deal damage consistently using your weapons, martial arts, and Wizardry Spells. The Water Phase, on the other hand, is more suited to someone who prefers a stealthier approach and does not want to deflect every attack.

Aside from offering different playstyles, every Phase dishes out different kinds of elemental damage. The Fire Phase does Fire damage. The Water Phase does Ice damage. The Wood phase does Lightning damage. The Earth phase does Stone damage. And finally, The Metal Phase does Toxin (poison) damage.

Every enemy also has an affinity for a specific elemental damage type. Likewise, it's also weak to one of the Five phases. It's up to you to figure out which enemy is weak to which damage type.

Like your character, some enemies may also cast Wizardry Spells. You can counter an enemy's spell attack by keeping the following combinations in mind:

  • Wood is destructive to Earth.
  • Fire is destructive to Metal
  • Water is destructive to Fire
  • Metal is destructive to Wood
  • Earth is destructive to Water

That's everything you need to know about the five Elemental Phases in Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty.
