God of War Ragnarok Is The Fastest Selling PlayStation Game Ever

God of War Ragnarok has become the fastest-selling first-party PlayStation game of all time. Yes, you read that right. PlayStation confirmed the gigantic news earlier today via an official Tweet.

The sequel to 2018's God of War, God of War Ragnarok, launched on 9th November 2022 on PS4 and PS5 to incredibly positive reviews from fans and critics alike. Now, just weeks after its majestic launch, the company has claimed that this latest entry in the action-adventure series has broken multiple franchise records.

According to PlayStation, God of War Ragnarok sold 5.1 million copies in its debut week. As mentioned previously, this jaw-dropping sales figure makes God of War Ragnarok the fastest-selling first-party PlayStation title of all time.

This record was previously held by Naughty Dog's The Last of Us Part 2, which sold over 4 million copies in its launch week. God of War (2018), on the other hand, sold over 3.1 million copies in its first week.

Despite such incredible feats, God of War Ragnarok won't be getting a story DLC anytime soon, if at all, game director Eric Williams recently confirmed on the Kinda Funny podcast while answering a fan question.

In our review, we called God of War Ragnarok a "cinematic and narrative behemoth," stating that "it's the best-written AAA game since 2010's Red Dead Redemption, that's bogged down only by its redundant world design and repetitive combat." The game currently holds a Metacritic score of 94/100.

Although God of War Ragnarok brings the Norse saga to an end, it leaves plenty of room for a potential sequel. Given its incredible sales and critical reception, a sequel doesn't seem so far-fetched.

However, even if Sony Santa Monica is working on a new God of War game, it could be a while until fans get to  hear anything about it.
