All The Endings For Sons Of The Forest Explained

Endnight Games’ survival game Sons of the Forest reportedly included three endings that determine your character's fate and that of the NPCs. Each ending requires specific objectives to be met before unlocking each and will award you an Achievement.

As it's possible to reach the end without learning much about the game's lore, it will still leave you with more questions than answers if you've chosen one of its endings. So, we've detailed in this guide how to get all the endings and what they mean in Sons of the Forest.

How To Unlock The Sons Of The Forest Ending?

Players can fast track their way to the game’s ending relatively quickly as you’ll need to have found essential items that can assist them in exploring the island’s cave systems and underground bunkers. We’ve outlined the following things you’ll need to have found within your first playthrough of Sons of the Forest:

• Shovel
• Rebreather
• Rope Gun
• Maintenance and VIP keycards
• The Golden Armor set (the katana weapon is optional)
• The Cross (a document that will inform you that “Crosses burn demons”)

We have detailed guides on how to find each item with your GPS tracker, which you will get from the Emergency Pack, which should aid you in navigating the island’s terrain. Once you’ve collected the Golden Armor, advance to the bunker along the island’s eastern coast, and using the VIP keycard, make your way through the bunker to locate the Golden Hand Seal Door.

Equip the Golden Armor to your character and interact with the sealed door to unlock it and make your way down the tunnel. You’ll encounter a few enemies along the way, but the armor will reduce damage taken, so make sure you have meds or Health Mix.

If you found the document that informs you that “Crosses burn demons,” you’ll need to have located the Cross, as pointing it at demons in this cave will set them alight. Use the lava flowing throughout the cave as your compass, as you’ll need to keep moving deeper into the cave until you find more documents, with one stating to “stay in the cube.”

You’ll eventually find a crevice that passes through and will lead you into the cube with a soldier holding a laptop displaying a countdown which he begins to panic. The cube will open on the opposite side, revealing a futuristic world that won’t make sense, and it will close once more and open with an enemy awaiting.

What Does The Sons Of The Forest Ending Mean?

The game’s ending doesn’t reveal or say much about what happened on the island; however, we may look at all the documents and books you’ve collected, which could illuminate events that may have occurred. One book may have theorized the prevalence of alternate dimensions, and if this is the case, then the golden cube may be a big piece of that puzzle, but it doesn’t state what has been turning people into mutants.

Early in the game, it's alluded that you may have encountered Eric and Tim LeBlanc from The Forest at the bunker when finding the Golden Armor. It’s been theorized to be this duo based on a simple line of dialogue where the older man informs the younger man to “get down, son,” which may assume they’ve been continuing their research on these alternate dimensions.

The game's currently in Early Access, so it’s possible that more dialogue and lore could be added to the game, which may help clarify various questions that have yet to be answered. While the developers have not yet confirmed anything, we can only hope there will be more in future game updates before it leaves Early Access for its global launch.

All Three Sons Of The Forest Endings Explained

As mentioned before, Sons of the Forest technically has three endings; however, two are pretty alike should you board the helicopter. They all play out the same as a cutscene will play out after finding the golden cube where you’ll find yourself on the beach and depending on how you played, you can get one of three endings.

The best ending revolves around befriending Virginia, resulting in her becoming your NPC companion and requiring you having treat Kelvin well, as they will join you at the golden cube. Once located and when back on the island, Kelvin and Virgina will join you and the soldier in the helicopter, thus leaving the island behind as getting this ending unlocks the Achievement “Keep Your Friends Close.”

The next ending is the good or standard ending, where Kelvin will join you at the golden cube before you reach the beach together and board the helicopter. This ending will give the “Fought Demons” Achievement, which is befitting given what you had endured.

The final ending is considered bad, but it’s not entirely terrible, as you’ll need to have been in the golden cube before getting to the beach. At the helicopter, you can spot a backpack in the distance if you turn around and grab the backpack before seeing off the soldier as the plane flies away.

This sees you remaining on the island as you can do whatever you want, including surviving and fighting off enemies. This unlocks the “Fight Demons” Achievement, as you’ll forever be tethered to the island.
