How to easily beat Rennala in Elden Ring

Rennala is one of the main bosses in Elden Ring. Here's how you can beat her easily.
How to easily beat Rennala in Elden Ring

Elden Ring is a brutally difficult action RPG with a steep learning curve similar to FromSoftware's past titles. While a shift to an open world does make it a little lenient as you can always choose to walk away from a challenging foe and explore a different section of the map, for the time being, it doesn't change the fact that Elden Ring is still one of the most, if not the most, difficult FromSoftware games.

Some of the most difficult battles in Elden Ring are with the various Elden Lords, most of which have two health bars and can kill you in one shot despite your high vitality stats. As such, it's important to approach these battles with the right tools and mindset. Rennala, Queen of the Full Moon, is one such intimidating boss whose second phase can be an absolute nightmare. To make things easy for you, here's our guide on how to easily beat Rennala in Elden Ring.

You will notice rather quickly that Rennala takes a lot of damage and ideally should go down pretty easily. However, she conjures some pretty devasting magic attacks that can and will kill you in one hit. These are the ones that you need to avoid, or at least divert them somewhere else temporarily, while you concentrate on getting her health down.

To do this, you will need Spirit Ashes, to which you get access to ironically from Renna the Witch, Rennala's daughter, at the Church of Ellah grace, early on in the game. Renna will give you Lone Wolf Spirit Ashes, which is sufficient for this fight.

The first phase of the fight is simple as it is where you find and damage three of Rennala's disciples with golden auras around them to stun and bring Rennala down. It's the second phase of the fight where the real trouble begins, and it's where your Spirit Ashes will come in handy.

Soon after that gorgeous cutscene, Rennala will send a massive energy beam towards you that will kill you instantly if you don't dodge it. When she starts conjuring the energy beam, wait for a second or two before dodging left. You can also start sprinting, but dodging is a safer option.

You will get a window of opportunity to summon your spirits after the energy beam attack, so make sure to do that. Your spirit ashes will serve as the perfect distraction for Rennala. While she redirects some of her menacing magic attacks towards your spirits, you can attack her safely from a distance if you're a ranged character or run down to her if you're a melee one. Either way, her heath will come down super fast, and you can take her down in just a few hits.

Rock Sling is a great spell to do massive damage to Rennala. (Picture: FromSoftware)

We recommend using a staff as it's easy to dodge her attacks from afar. We used the Rock Sling spell, which did massive damage to her and was able to bring her down in just 6-7 attacks. Since the Rock Sling spell takes a while to get going, we recommend planning these attacks carefully. Do not start conjuring when she's preparing her beam attack or getting ready to throw a swarm of magical swords towards you.

Halfway through the second phase, Rennala will start calling her own Spirit Ashes. If your spirits are still alive by this point, they should be able to keep hers distracted. If not, we recommend ignoring and dodging her spirits and continuing firing shots at her. The sooner you finish this fight, the better, as Rennala's attacks get more and more devasting and unpredictable as the battle goes on.
