Wailing Woods Fox
[caption id="attachment_104579" align="alignnone" width="600"] This picturesque fox can hold some decent loot for a solo player.[/caption] On the eastern side of Wailing Woods, an enormous stone fox watches over its forested domain. It can spawn up to three chests, along with some floor loot, and it also puts you in prime position for the rest of the game. If it’s a northern circle you’re faced with, you can hug the coast up to the north-east corner and visit the player-built house, followed by two possible chests at the ice cream truck and along to Risky Reels. If you need to head south, the superhero mansion and the racetrack are yours to explore.

Just round the corner however, is a cluster of factories and a nightclub which is home to a 24/7 rave. There’s enough loot in this area for a full squad, with approximately 18 possible chest spawns and a plethora of floor loot. It offers options after leaving too, with Lucky Landing and Flush Factory to the south, Shifty Shafts and Greasy Grove to the north, and Fatal Fields to the east.
[caption id="attachment_104577" align="alignnone" width="600"] Don’t forget to check the back of the overturned lorry.[/caption] Along the northern coast from Anarchy Acres is a rundown motel, complete with a swimming pool and two neighbouring houses. This is a great spot to head to in solos or duos, as there’s around six chests in and around the area, along with a vending machine spawn. Very close by is a meteorite crater to the north, which can spawn another few chests and hop rocks to escape the incoming storm, and to the south is a cave area shaped like an umbrella. If you head to the bottom, another two chests can spawn down there.
[caption id="attachment_104576" align="alignnone" width="600"] Destroying the pallets here provides a healthy source of wood.[/caption] In between Retail Row and Tomato Town sits an area full of shipping crates. At first it can seem maze-like, but after landing there a few times the layout will become familiar and you’ll learn the quick routes from chest to chest. There’s 8 chests in total, including one in the back of the truck on the western side, and there’s also a lot of wood pallets to give you plenty of wood. If you do land with some enemies, aim to move slowly and don’t dash round corners; crank your headphones up and pinpoint their exact location.
[caption id="attachment_104578" align="alignnone" width="600"] It vaguely resembles a purple-eyed skull.[/caption] Etched into the side of a mountain on the west coast is a skull. Ominously looking down upon Snobby Shores, if you land at the top of the mountain, you’ll see the tip of a rocket peeking over the edge. Head down the stairs and you’re greeted with a fully equipped supervillain base, with floor loot scattered around everywhere and a few chests. The best aspect to this landing spot is the location though; its height means you can scout out Snobby Shores, peer down at the football stadium, and plan out your next port of call. A large part of surviving in Fortnite is limiting the angles you can be shot from. Most of the locations mentioned here are situated near the edges of the map, for two reasons: fewer people land there, and if you keep your back to the coast, you’re not going to be shot from behind. Keep this method in mind when the storm comes in and avoid the high traffic areas, and over time your chances of winning will increase.
