Genshin Impact's 2.4 update will bring back two of the most beloved events to the game, with the re-run of the Lantern Rite festival and Windtrace.

Genshin players are currently enjoying some of the content added as part of the 2.3 update, as they await the release of Phase II with its debut of the “Canine Warrior” Gorou and “Hanamizaka Heroics” Arataki Itto, two new characters from the Inazuma region.

But as we look further ahead, new details have started to emerge around the 2.4 update, thanks, in large part, to information from the closed beta.

We've already taken a look at the new characters, weapons, and banners coming to Genshin Impact, so now it's time to check the events this big update will bring with it.

Celebrate the Lantern Rite and play some Windtrace

As always, a crucial pillar of content for each update comes in the form of featured events, however, for the first time since the game’s release, all players will have the chance to enjoy a couple of the game's most popular events once again, with the return of the Lantern Rite festival and the Windtrace challenges.

For Genshin Impact veterans, the Lantern Rite festival stands among the most beloved events of the entire game, as players ventured into a series of quests to help the powerful adepti Xiao deal with some bad spirits, while the Traveller and Paimon tried to make him join the celebrations in Liyue.

According to the event banner found in the beta, it seems both Ganyu and the newcomer Shenhe will also take part in this year’s Lantern Rite quests, so we can expect a couple of changes and more exclusive rewards to come.

As for Windtrace, this event was a favourite in the Genshin community when it was released back in the 1.5 update. The event consists of a minigame where players are split into two teams, the Rebels, members of the ancient resistance, and a Hunter sent by the ancient aristocracy, who will then have a contest of wits in the Contested Zones.

In a few words, the Hunter's task is to capture all the Rebels, while the Rebels must constantly move and hide to avoid the Hunter until the danger has passed. So far, there aren’t any details about when these events will return to the game, but it’s expected this will be linked to the character banner releases.

More featured quests in Genshin Impact 2.4

Now let’s move on to the featured quests, as dataminers from Honey Impact have discovered a new event that will be focused around Timaeus, the alchemist from Mondstadt who will be apparently trying to create a legendary alchemical medication.

The “A Study in Potions” event will be very similar to how the Spiral Abyss works, as players will, after choosing their characters, will battle over different floors in order to complete all the challenges as fast as they can.

Players will have to defeat all opponents within the time limit to complete each floor challenge. During the event, you will have a series of potions at your disposal, which you can use to recover either some HP or boost your stats.

Once the challenge is complete, your score will be tabulated based on how much time is left, and you will receive seals based on this score, which can then be used to unlock rewards like Mora, Enhancement Materials, and more to be revealed.

“Over Mountains and Seas” is another of the events waiting to be added in v2.4, as it features the playful raccoon Kichiboushi, and at the request of the giant stone Tanuki statue Ioroi, you will have to take him out to see the world.

However, being a tanuki, Kichiboushi is liable to turn into various other objects while on this little adventure, so Travellers will have to observe their surroundings well so as to not let him out of their sight.

Looking at the event’s interface, it’s possible you will have to complete first the Cleansing Defilement World Quest before you venture into this challenge, so don’t waste too much time and do it now when you can.

Aside from the events seen above, with the addition of Enkanomiya and the debut of both Shenhe and Yun Jin, there are some other quests set to be added into the game, including:

  • Shenhe Story Quest
  • Yun Jin Hangout Event
  • Ningguang Hangout Event
  • New World Boss battle in Enkanomiya
  • New Weekly Boss against a Fatui Harbinger

Genshin Impact's 2.4 update is set to release on 5th January 2022.
