Pokimane slams Shane Dawson's "disingenuous" apology

Imane "Pokimane" Anys has openly criticized Shane Dawnson's apology video on 10th October, citing that it sent "disingenuous vibes" and that he didn't think about his transgressions for long enough. She also felt as though he didn't properly address what he did wrong, nor appear to be genuinely sorry for it either.

Shane Dawson's apology video was uploaded earlier this week and marked his return to YouTube, following a nearly 2-year long hiatus from the platform. Shane Dawson had previously found himself cancelled amid allegations of racism in his previous videos, which led to the YouTube content creator losing millions of subscribers.

Pokimane reacted to the video during her Twitch stream, where she said: "The way that he is jumping between topics, I hate to say it, it just sends such disingenuous vibes."

The Twitch star continued to explain that if Shane really cared, he would have made more effort to make people aware of how sorry he was.

"When you feel like it's a real apology, they sit down and they look like they feel bad and they tell you, at length, honestly how they feel, what they did wrong. That's how you really do it," Pokimane said.

Pokimane continued, saying: "The way he summarized it kind of sucked, where he was like, 'All these clips came out and that was bad, and if I talk about how I really feel about it then people will say I just want sympathy' but it's like, then maybe you haven't thought about it long enough."

Pokimane proceeded to criticize Shane Dawson for not properly addressing the reason for his hiatus. The Twitch star said that none of the reasons he listed indicated that he genuinely felt bad about what he did, nor did he acknowledge that what he did was wrong or that he was sorry.

"You need to acknowledge what you did. And in acknowledging what you've done wrong, you need to say that you're sorry to showcase that you're genuinely sorry for those things," she said.

While several other members of the Twitch and YouTube community reciprocate Pokimane's stance on the matter, many feel as though there wasn't a need for an apology given that Shane already apologized for what had happened in the past.
