The Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters is still accepting new students but is also sending its gifted recruits out for training in the current season for Marvel Snap. The latest recruit joining fellow New X-Men cohorts is Elixir, who is well-prepared to put up his fists to destroy or revive teammates to eventually topple opponents and those pesky Sentinels.
If Snappers thought having one “golden boy” in Adam Warlock was enough, Elixir enters the conversation, but just how Omega powerful his potential truly is? Well, this guide aims to investigate and answer this question and more as we detail everything about Elixir, including understanding its card abilities, key synergies, top counters, and some deck ideas to get Snappers started in Marvel Snap.
Marvel Snap Elixir Card Abilities Explained:
Joshua "Josh" Foley was referred to as the “golden boy” during his childhood years due to his being well-liked by many and being an adjusted person. However, unbeknownst to him, he was born a mutant, but it took a while for his powers to manifest, and he eventually accepted Dani Moonstar's invitation to enroll at Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters to help better understand his powers following a battle with the New Mutants.
While he continues to understand his mutant abilities, despite some "internal struggles," he is later classified as an "Omega-level mutant" under the moniker Elixir, which he'll be putting to the ultimate test on the battlegrounds of Marvel Snap. At his official release, Elixir is a Series 5 card with his base stats as a two-Cost and three Power card with an On Reveal ability to revive one of the "cards destroyed last turn" at its location.
Initial thoughts of Elixir led to assumptions that he would synergize within the Destroy archetype; however, that may not be the case, as he does require Snappers to set up the play lines to destroy a specific card last turn before reviving it with Elixir. Elixir depends on Snappers' actions or sequence of events on the last (previous) turn; this can be somewhat restrictive, as Elixir could be reserved as a mid to last game card, preventing other, more valuable cards from being played.
He does synergize well with cards that can retrigger or copy Elixir's ability, like Grandmaster, Firehair, Absorbing Man, Misery, and, of course, Wong, but can be countered by Armor, Cosmo, and Fenris Wolf, to name a few. Snappers looking to scoop up Elixir can acquire him from the Seasonal Series 5 Snap Packs alongside cards from the "What If...?" and "New X-Men" seasons for 5,000 Collector's Tokens or as a standalone purchase for 6,000 Collector's Tokens.
Best Marvel Snap Elixir Decks: Milling Some Elixir
Before delving into some deck ideas for the latest card release, Snappers need to understand that Elixir revives one card destroyed in the last (previous turn), meaning cards like X-23, Deadpool, Wolverine, and Sabertooth won't synergize as they return to the hand or remain in play. As such, these decks will be composed of cards that Snappers will want (or need) to destroy, whether it's to avoid a ten-powered card from being targeted by Shang-Chi or perhaps were destroyed by opponents with Gambit or to retrigger abilities in certain deck archetypes.
We'll look to the latter idea of retriggering abilities, which is the core objective for a Mill deck, as Elixir may have a home in with this Mill-tastic deck from Marvel Snap content creator Alexander Coccia. Mill decks slowly gained some popularity following Misery and Firehair's releases, and since Elixir synergizes with the aforementioned cards, Snappers have more opportunities to deplete their opponents' decks.
Snappers will have key Mill cards like Cable, Baron Zemo, and Gladiator as key targets to destroy with Misery and Lady Deathstrike, despite changes to Yondu now banishing cards instead of destroying them, which Killmonger is included to eliminate both Yondu and The Hood. Lastly, Snappers have Elixir to revive any destroyed card, and if Firehair is in play, she can retrigger their abilities, which should discount Death, and in case of emergencies, Shang-Chi is added to destroy their opponent's high-powered cards.
Best Marvel Snap Elixir Decks: Budget-Friendly Elixir
The next spotlighted deck goes in a similar direction of destroying cards to revive one through Elixir; this time, we'll look at destroying fewer cards to revive before destroying them once Elixir's ability has been utilized. This allows Snappers to play a fairly straightforward Destroy deck without being burdened by Elixir's card mechanic, but still being able to discount Death to play her earlier or reserve as a last-turn card.
Turning to a more budget-friendly Destroy deck, this deck from Marvel Snap content creator ReZ Snapper throws in some good candidates to destroy within the first three turns, like Nova, Uncle Ben, Bucky Barnes, and possibly Carnage if Venom destroys the latter card. This means that Snappers must set up Elixir in an adjacent location to revive one destroyed card from the last turn, especially if Carnage gets revived, which will destroy Elixir and likely other cards played at Elixir's location.
If Elixir revives a one-Cost card, playing Shanna the She-Devil makes more sense as she'll generate one-Cost cards at all locations, which can be destroyed with Killmonger, which, having Lady Deathstrike, can also help in this endeavor. Finally, they'll have the Phoenix Force to revive another destroyed card, which can be valuable if the card could be Carnage, Venom, or Death if played, which can be moved to another location to avoid being countered by Shang-Chi or to swing priority in their favor.
Best Marvel Snap Elixir Decks: Vibranium-Infused Elixir
Our final spotlighted deck stays on the premise of destroying and reviving cards, but for greater power and value, with Black Panther included in the deck. This can be achieved in a few ways by ramping out the card with Electro and Luna Snow to give extra energy and Wave to get Symbiote Spider-Man and Black Panther out earlier before playing Arnim Zola and eventually Elixir for another Black Panther to be revived.
This Vibranium-powered deck from Marvel Snap content creator Regis Killbin features Firehair and Misery, which Snappers can safely play to be destroyed by Attuma and Misery like Wave, Luna Snow, and White Tiger. Don't forget that Attuma can also destroy Electro and Firehair, the latter of which to avoid triggering abilities they don't want.
This should make playing Symbiote Spider-Man and Black Panther much easier before Arnim Zola can be played, thus destroying Black Panther. In the final turn, Snappers can play Elixir to revive Black Panther as it was destroyed in the last (or previous) turn, and if they have enough energy, Knull can be played in a location of their choosing to secure location priority or even to spread out power across the locations.
