Charles Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters just received a brilliant student in every way imaginable, as Prodigy has arrived in the card battler as part of May 2025's New X-Men season. Boasting a youthful personality with an intellectual mind to outsmart his opponents, Prodigy is the living embodiment of "a child prodigy" despite initially wanting to live a fairly everyday life.
Even though he wasn't interested in joining the New X-Men, he eventually did; however, after losing his powers during M-Day, the Stepford Cuckoos helped him regain his greatest power to assist the superhero team, he could play a key role in deck building and help Snappers outsmart their opponents and get the victory. This guide details what Snappers need to know about Prodigy, including his card abilities, best synergistic cards, top counters, and three equally smart decks that he could play a significant role in Marvel Snap.
Marvel Snap Prodigy Card Abilities Explained:
David Alleyne / Prodigy was born a mutant, but his powers manifested and continued to grow as a child, which made him one of the most intelligent students to have enrolled at Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters. Despite his powers, which allowed him to absorb the knowledge and skillset of individuals within his radius, he was determined to be a brilliant student from taking on college-graded courses at a young age to studying harder to avoid being labeled as a cheater and, most of all, hiding his powers, but not anymore.
Joining Marvel Snap as the latest card release, Prodigy is a Series 5 card with the baseline stats of three Cost and four Power, with quite an intriguing card ability once it's on the board. When played in the back row, Prodigy will copy the text of the card directly in front of it, which, much like Captain Carter, card placement is pivotal to maximizing its potential and output.
This card can essentially copy the text of an On Reveal and Ongoing card, giving it a broader range of decks into which it can be inserted, and it has the most flexible batch of synergistic cards. That said, it's still an On Reveal before it's revealed, so Cosmo and Juggernaut are perhaps its best counter, but while in play, if the text is Ongoing, Rogue, Red Guardian, and Enchantress are viable counters.
Setting up the playlines for Prodigy can be extremely awkward, and it does rely on having really good draws when playing on curve, but if executed well, the card can be pretty valuable to have in the Collection once more stats become available on this card. As such, Prodigy can be obtained from the Seasonal Series 5 Snap Pack for 5,000 Collector's Tokens and as an individual purchase for 6,000 Collector's Tokens from the Token Shop.
Best Marvel Snap Prodigy Decks: A Prodigy Evolved
This shouldn't surprise many Snappers, but Prodigy's best deck archetype happens to be the High Evolutionary deck, which received a slight buff for the Bruce Banner card in a Match 2025 balance update. However, what's more appealing as to why Prodigy fits neatly within this specific archetype shell is that the targeted cards to copy its text could be Nebula, Sunspot, or Bruce Banner, but ideally, Sunspot would be the preferred option.
This highly evolved deck from Marvel Snap content creator Alexander Coccia mixes things up, bringing in mainstay EVO cards like Misty Knight, Cyclops, and The Hulk running alongside She-Hulk and Caiera with some new additions. Being mindful of card placement in the first two turns, Snappers will want to get Sunspot out in an ideal location with Nebula, Misty Knight, or Bruce Banner on Turn 2.
The third turn is determined by what cards their opponent has played, meaning Caiera could be played if their opponent is running a Destroy deck, but if not, Prodigy can be prioritized if it's played in the back row (or exactly behind) Sunspot. Turn 4 is where Magik can be brought out with Luna Snow to gain extra energy to discount She-Hulk before being played alongside The Hulk, of which Bruce Banner may likely have HULKED OUT to secure priority and the win!
Best Marvel Snap Prodigy Decks: Smooth Like A Prodigy
The next spotlighted deck is a new variation of the Silky Smooth archetype, allowing Snappers to play synergistic cards to create high power at its location and distribute it to adjacent locations. Oftentimes, we do see a small Silky Smooth package within Zoo/Ka-Zoo and Bounce decks with Kitty Pryde, Thena, Angela, and Bishop, but this time, Prodigy has been factored!
This smooth-operating deck from Marvel Snap content creator ReZ Snapper also welcomes a few movers: Nightcrawler, Kraven, Rocket Raccoon & Groot, and the Vision! Snappers will want to set up their Prodigy location and the Kraven location for Nightcrawler, Rocket Raccoon & Groot, and the Vision to move into that location.
Thena, too, can be played in the remaining location, but ideally, Prodigy can copy Nightcrawler or Angela, the latter of which can be a great location to play Kitty Pryde, Hope Summers, and the aforementioned move cards. They'll also have Shang-Chi as the chosen tech card, which Alioth can enter the fray on Turn 6 to avoid potential counters and location priority.
Best Marvel Snap Prodigy Decks: The Prodigy Titan
The final spotlighted deck combines two incredibly powerful archetypes, Ongoing and Thanos, that allow Prodigy to shine despite its awkward playstyle. This gives Prodigy multiple and potentially good targets for Prodigy to copy its text from the Infinity Stones to the Ongoing cards that produce high power outputs like Ant-Man, Goliath, Dazzler, and Speed.
This colossal deck from Marvel Snap content creator Regis Killbin follows quite a simple playline with the Cap's Shield token card already in play at the start of the game, which is the key to setting up a location for Prodigy to copy a card's text. For this deck, Speed (or Goliath, depending on card draw) would be the best pick, meaning Snappers are to build two locations with Ant-Man (or an Infinity Stone) and Sam Wilson or Goliath likely together in one lane, and on Turn 3, Speed can be played at an adjacent location.
If Sam Wilson is in play, on Turn 4, move the Cap's Shield into the Speed location and play Prodigy to copy Speed's card text and an Infinity Stone, which will allow Snappers to play a combination of Dazzler and Captain America, Wiccan, or Mockingbird and an Infinity Stone, or Blue Marvel. The final turn is that if there are enough Ongoing cards in play, Spectrum can join the game to buff all Ongoing cards, hopefully securing Snappers the victory!
