Epic will require two-factor authentication prior to claiming free games on the Epic Games Store (28 April - 21 May)

Now we'll have a bit of a nuisance when we claim free weekly games on Epic Store.
Epic will require two-factor authentication prior to claiming free games on the Epic Games Store (28 April - 21 May)

In an effort to tighten up the security of accounts and their users, Epic will start to require a two-factor authentication periodically when users are claiming free games.

This will not be a permanent thing, but only through a three-week period, from today and ending on 21 May.

Epic says that they understand that this will be a minor inconvenience for some users, but states that they are doing this in an effort to encourage players to take steps to strengthen their Epic account security.

In this period, if you don't have two-factor authentication enabled in the settings, you will not be able to claim free games. You can read a guide on how to set up your protection here.

Two-factor authentication is generally a good thing for all of your accounts since it protects you from unauthorized login attempts by requiring you to enter a security code when you sign in, and you get those codes either via phone or email.

Some people are speculating that this might be the case to stop people who are claiming this free games with bot accounts, in order to sell them later. This might be true but we also believe that Epic simply wants their users to be safe, especially with all the latest news about security breaches, the biggest one being the story of Nintendo and 160,000 accounts affected by hackers.
