Twitch streamers have come together to protest against the ongoing "hate raids" plaguing marginalized individuals on the platform. The #ADayOffTwitch movement has subsequently trended on social media in a bid to compel Twitch to take action. World of Warcraft and Twitch icon, Asmongold, is not convinced that the movement will work, claiming that there simply aren't enough big names involved for it to have much effect.
Asmongold claims #ADayOffTwitch won't work
In his broadcast on the 23rd of August, Asmongold explained why the #ADayOffTwitch movement would not work and gave his reasoning for not participating in the protest. "Nobody gives a f**k if you take the day off. Nobody knows who you are. That’s the truth,” he said.
Asmongold continued to add that if every other big streamer got together and were all collectively determined to stand behind the movement, he would "do it in a heartbeat." The Twitch star confessed that he had no qualms supporting the movement but felt that it lacked sufficient backing by notable influencers for it to make much difference.
"I would do it. I have got no problem because I do believe in the power of numbers, I absolutely do, which is why I don't believe in this," Asmongold indicated.
Asmongold explained that you can't get "a couple of 20 andies" (i.e. small streamers) together and believe that the movement will gain much traction. "Nobody gives a f***, it doesn't f***ing matter", he concluded.
A Twitch user commented, asking why Asmongold wouldn't be the first "big streamer" to make a stand. Asmongold responded and said: "I hate being the first. The thing is to me [...] every time I start a trend, people get p***ed off about the trend, okay. So yeah, I'm a little bit gun-shy about doing it. I'm not a big fan of it."
The #ADayOffTwitch movement has gained attention amongst many smaller streamers so perhaps it's only a matter of time before more notable influencers demonstrate their support. If this were to happen, it is possible that Asmongold may then hop on the trend and show his support.
