Kid spends $20,000 of parents' savings on Twitch donations and subscriptions

Never, ever let your children gain access to your credit or debit card information. Lock it up in a safe if you have to. This is a lesson one parent seems to have learned the hard way after her kid reportedly spent years of savings on Twitch via subscriptions and donations.

Kid spends nearly $20,000 on Twitch donations and subs

A devastated parent took to Reddit after her "minor child" reportedly spent nearly $20,000 via Twitch in a span of three weeks, without the parents' consent or knowledge.

While Twitch subscriptions are limited between $4.99 to $24.99, depending on the streamer tier, there are a whole lot of streamers to subscribe to. However, you can make as much donations as you want to your favourite streamer.

This has allowed a kid to spend $19,870.94 for the parents' debit card, with several donations going to popular Fortnite streamers such as Tfue, Gorb, and Ewokttv, amongst others. This all happened between 14th and 30th June 2020.

Since the incident, the parent, who chooses to remain anonymous, has taken steps with the bank to get the money back. She has also contacted streamers who received large donations. 

Further, she reportedly contacted Twitch, which hasn't responded in over two weeks, while Amazon told her to contact Twitch directly with this issue.

It remains to be seen if the parents will get at least some of their money back after their kid's spending spree on Twitch donations and subscriptions.
