Ryan Trahan is 23 years old and was born on 7th October 1998. He is engaged to fellow YouTube content creator Haley Pham, with whom he shares a dog named Spock. Beyond the realm of YouTube, Ryan is also an entrepreneur, founding the companies Neptune Bottle and the Hydra clothing line.
Why is Ryan Trahan crossing America with 1 penny?
Ryan Trahan's traversal across America is part of a fundraising effort with charity organization Team Feeds and the Feeding America foodbank network. According to his donation page, he is crossing America starting with just $0.01 because the "penny is going extinct in 2023," and he wants "to prove how powerful a penny can be" while helping "end hunger in America."
The fundraising initiative is linked to a month-long YouTube video series appropriately titled "Surviving on $0.01 for 30 Days," which he started on 1st June 2022. The series follows Ryan as he attempts to cross America in 30 days going from Los Angeles in California to Greenville, North Carolina. Once there, he must deliver the penny to MrBeast (because MrBeast doesn't have one).
Penny Challenge Rules
Starting with just $0.01, Ryan must use his entrepreneurial skills to accumulate enough money to support his travel across America, which he does expertly through trading and/or buying and selling items. However, all profit must come from the penny, and all food, transport, and expenses must come from the penny's profit.
Throughout the videos, viewers are encouraged to donate to his project; however, every time a donor contributes $50,000, they activate "The Great Reset," forcing Ryan to forfeit all his profits and start again with only $0.01.
Ryan is currently 23 days into his journey and has raised over $1 million for Team Feed. Every dollar raised helps provide at least ten meals, meaning that Ryan and his donors have already raised over 10 million meals. Also, Ryan will donate $0.01 for every new subscriber gained during the series.
