Draconic Time Crystal In Fire Emblem Engage: Rewind Mechanic Explained

Here is everything you need to know about the Draconic Time Crystal, a.k.a the rewind mechanic in Fire Emblem Engage.
Draconic Time Crystal In Fire Emblem Engage: Rewind Mechanic Explained

Permadeath has always been a staple of the Fire Emblem franchise. For that unaware, permadeath in Fire Emblem refers to a mechanic in which, should your units die on the battlefield, they will become unusable for the remainder of the game. While unchangeable in previous Fire Emblem games, the permadeath feature can now be toggled on or off for those who want a more casual experience. Additionally, a new mechanic has been introduced in newer games allowing you to rewind several turns in order to fix mistakes.

Features in games like Fire Emblem: Echoes and Fire Emblem Three Houses, turning back the clock on a misplay is a godsend in some of the more taxing missions. Fire Emblem Engage continues the trend of allowing for a slight back-peddle, but things are a little different this time around. This article will explain how to use the Draconic Time Crystal in Fire Emblem Engage and how the rewind mechanic works.

After Chapter 3, players will receive the Draconic Time Crystal. The main purpose of this crystal is to rewind to a previous point in the middle of a battle, to correct any mistakes, or revive any fallen units. To use the Draconic Time Crystal, all you have to do is wait for your Player Phase. From here, press the "plus" button to open up the battle menu and select the "Time Crystal" option. Then, just rewind back to a previous point in the battle and try things over again.

If playing on Normal difficulty, you will have unlimited uses of the Time Crystal in battle, allowing you to correct mistakes as often as you please. However, when playing on Hard or Maddening difficulty, players will be limited to ten uses of the Time Crystal per battle. This means that if you run out of charges and a unit dies, you'll either have to accept the loss or reset the console to wipe the progress. There will always come certain missions in which the crystal is made unavailable so take notice of this.

Additionally, the Time Crystal doesn't seem to alter probability-based actions such as missing attacks. While not confirmed, we tested this several times, and if a character is going to miss an attack, it seems almost predetermined. You can change this by attacking from a different tile, with a different weapon, or with a different Backup unit beside you, which will impact the chance of missing or not.

And that's everything you need to know about how to use the Draconic Time Crystal in Fire Emblem Engage!
