Popular Twitch streamer Imane "Pokimane" Anys recently took to TikTok to share a precautionary tale about how she was almost blackmailed in an influencer scam. On 9 November 2022, Pokimane explained how someone had purported to represent Neiwai (a lingerie clothing brand) and attempted to coax her into supplying naked photos of her "bare chest." Pokimane said she believes the scammer could have used the nude images to blackmail or extort her for money.
"It all started a couple of weeks ago when I got an email from this company called Neiwai [...], and I actually mentioned them in my past videos because I wear their bras all the time," Pokimane began explaining. She continued by saying that occasionally when you order from or mention a company, they reach out to you for some P.R. In this case, an individual supposedly from Neiwai, who she later discovered was a scammer, had contacted her.
"Afterwards, [the scammer] sent me this PowerPoint of this new collection that they want to launch, and they said they need my measures, my address, and they'll send me like three custom bras," Pokimane said. However, a few days later, after she returned to her home in Los Angeles, Pokimane was going to take her measurements before quickly realizing something wasn't quite right.
Pokimane continued, "I go to take my measurements, and that's when I look at the email with the diagram [the scammer] sent me and everything. And I realized they weren't showing me how to take my measurements; they were asking me to put [a] tape measure around me and send them a photo of my bare chest."

The Twitch star then realized that she'd been speaking to a scammer the entire time, noting that no legitimate company would ask you to send them pictures of your "yiddies." Pokimane added that the scammer pretended to work for Neiwai and used fake emails to communicate with her. The scammer even went as far as to create a phony "multi-page PowerPoint" presentation and followed up with Pokimane multiple times.
"The amount of effort they put in is both comical and frightening. I don't even want to think about what they might have done if I actually sent them anything. Whether [to] extort me for money, blackmail me; if they have my address, it's even worse," Pokimane said. The Twitch star further warned other creators never to give their residential address but rather to use a P.O. box.
This latest incident should be a warning to creators to be careful of what and with whom they share things online.
