Twitch Star xQc Loses $650K Betting On FIFA World Cup Winner

On 18 December 2022, Canadian Twitch streamer Felix "xQc" Lengyel put his money where his mouth was by betting $500,000 that France would "win it all" against Argentina at the FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar. His returns would have been $1.4 million if only his ballsy bet didn't horrifically backfire. Instead, xQc ended up eating his words, losing nearly $650,000. So much for wanting to "snap on these noobs."

As you might know, fans worldwide celebrated Argentina's monumental victory, the country's first major win in nearly four decades that ended Europe's four-year consecutive win streak. Notably, the FIFA World Cup 2022 Grand Finals culminated with a 4-2 penalty shootout after the tournament drew 3-3, dubbing it the greatest world cup final in FIFA's history.

Shortly after Argentina's win, xQc swallowed his pride, tweeting, "Good game all around. Fun watch. -$650K, I guess." It's worth noting that the Twitch star's initial bet was $500,000, but he made several bets after France and Argentina drew their match in a seemingly desperate attempt to cut his losses. Sadly, his attempts only dug him deeper into the ground.

Later during a Twitch Livestream, xQc (who was visibly traumatized by his losses) managed to cash out only $5,000. While xQc is certainly no stranger to online betting, this latest bet is surely egregious enough to serve as an exemplar of the dangers of gambling. That said, it is unclear if xQc's losses are out of pocket or merely monies provided by Stake (his online gambling partner).

Still, we think it's safe to say that the Twitch star will think twice before making a bet like this ever again.
