Destiny 2 will be brought offline today, prior to the launch of a new update. Here's how long the server maintenance is expected to last.
How Long Does Destiny 2 Maintenance Normally Last?
Bungie

Destiny 2 is a massive online experience, and occasionally, Bungie takes it offline to undergo maintenance or update the game. Usually, these happen before weekly resets on Tuesdays, but sometimes Bungie deploys emergency maintenance to fix some ongoing technical issues; and every so often, Destiny services may be brought offline to undergo scheduled maintenance for the launch of a brand new expansion or Season.

Is Destiny 2 Undergoing Maintenance

If you're reading this, chances are the answer to your question is a big fat yes. Bungie will periodically bring the game offline for updates and hotfix maintenance.

We try to keep this page updated around any significant updates from Bungie. It's also worth keeping an eye on the official Bungie forums or Bungie Help on Twitter.

If, however, you're reading this page and we've not updated it to reflect any future maintenance, it's possible Destiny 2 is down due to unscheduled server issues. You know, the ones that normally results in an increase in BEE, WEASEL, and other animal-based errors in Destiny 2.

How Long Will Destiny 2 Be Down For Maintenance

In our experience Destiny 2 server maintenance typically begins at 6 am PST (1 pm GMT) and lasts anything from 2-6 hours.

Normally the game will be brought offline and players will be removed from in-game activities. At this point, a new Destiny 2 Update should be available to download on all platforms.

If you're wondering about the Destiny 2 Patch Notes for this update, don't fear, you can read everything Bungie has stated will change on the link above. Do note that players logging into the game may be placed in a queue and may experience sign-on issues as background maintenance.

Console players who encounter issues updating to the new update should first restart their console and try downloading the update before seeking further help from BungieHelp on Twitter.
