Asmongold slams conspiracy he is paid to stream Final Fantasy XIV

Iconic Twitch streamer Asmongold has hit back at claims that he is secretly getting paid by Square Enix to play Final Fantasy XIV (FFXIV) and spread fake news about World of Warcraft.

While the claims are absurd at best, this is not the first time the Twitch superstar has needed to address the concerns of FFXIV purists that questioned his authenticity and loyalty to the franchise.

On 8th January, one Reddit user wrote, "It's funny how common sense became a target of constant Source crying, while conspiracy theories become solid 'sounds about right' material."

The user continued, "Let's not forget all the conspiracy theories about Asmon getting paid by Square Enix to stream FFXIV and spread negative fake news about WoW."

Asmongold rejects claims he is paid to play FFXIV

In his response, Asmongold denied the accusation, saying, "So, every time I play a new game, this is what people really think because they're stupid. They think that every time I play a new game, it's actually a backroom deal."

Asmongold went on to describe what the purists think, asking whether they think he goes to some random place where "they're fixing horse races and boxing matches [...] where there's cigarette smoke everywhere, and it's hazy."

The related segment begins at around the 1:00 timestamp.

"That's what they really think it's going to be! Peaky f**king Blinders! And like, this is the world that these people live in because they're sitting around all f**king day watching television, and they're not thinking about real life."

Asmongold further added, "no company is going to pay you under the table to stream their game without acknowledging it unless it's a super shady company [...] because it's just such a huge violation. And you can like go to jail and get fined for it by the government."

The streamer continued to address the matter in a lengthy monologue, explaining that while he has accepted sponsorship deals before, he does not regularly do it. Beyond this, all his prior dealings were legitimate.

"People just believe whatever they want to believe, really," he said. Indeed, it is futile arguing with people who refuse to acknowledge reason, so we resonate with Asmongold's frustration.

However, Asmongold has made himself clear this time, so hopefully, there won't be any further pushback from FFXIV purists.
