Is Caldera Coming To Warzone 2?

With the news that Warzone Caldera is set to shut down later this year, will the Caldera map be making its way to Warzone 2?

The original Warzone went through a number of iterations, having spanned across three mainline Call of Duty games: Modern Warfare (2019), Black Ops Cold War, and Vanguard. Throughout its run, four main maps were made available: Verdansk, Rebirth Island, Fortune’s Keep and Caldera. The latter became the focus of the original Warzone with the launch of Warzone 2. The original was renamed Warzone Caldera, and allowed players to jump back into Warzone but only the Caldera map and only through Solos and Quads in Battle Royale.

Sadly, on June 22, Activision announced that Warzone Caldera would be shutting down for good. It will cease operation on September 21, 2023. The decision seems to incentivize players to make the move across to Warzone 2 which, as of Season 4, has been renamed to Warzone. In a blog post, Activision said, “We all have had incredible Warzone experiences across the Call of Duty franchise since its first launch, including those in Warzone Caldera.

For those players who haven’t jumped over to the current Warzone activities, expect a vast amount of gameplay choices across three Battle Royale maps (including Season 04’s new map Vondel), as well as Ranked Play, the DMZ Beta featuring five different Extraction Zones, BlackCell offerings, and more.”

So what does this mean for the Caldera map? Is it gone for good, or will we see it reimagined in Warzone 2?

At the time of writing, Activision have revealed no plans to bring Caldera over to Warzone 2. The Battle Royale’s main map is currently Al Mazrah, with two additional Resurgence maps available: Ashika Island and Vondel. The latter was introduced in Season 4.

Despite no word on Caldera coming to Warzone 2, that doesn’t mean we couldn’t see it return in the future. Call of Duty regularly brings past maps back to life in modern games, meaning that there’s a chance we could see it return in Warzone 2 or Modern Warfare 2 in the future.

In the blog post, Activision reassured players by saying, “Players should prepare for even more Warzone content across consoles and PC, as well as a new era of Battle Royale on the go with the launch of Call of Duty®: Warzone™ Mobile, which includes a shared Battle Pass and cross-progression. The Call of Duty team and Studios look forward to sharing more details soon.”

Warzone Mobile currently contains original Warzone map Verdansk. It’s possible, then, that we could see Caldera return through Warzone Mobile in the future. We’ll continue to update this page as more information becomes available.
