Palia's first expansion, The Elderwood, has officially arrived to the cozy MMO, which coincides with the game's console launch for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. This expansion sees a bevy of new content for Palians to begin exploring, which includes a new Adventure Zone, the Elderwood, complete with a new map, a new Villager to befriend, new gameplay mechanics, cosmetics, and more.

Having covered this game for nearly two years, there are plenty of reasons to get excited for this expansion, but getting started will require some elbow grease and valuable information before jumping into the game. That said, we've compiled a handful of tips, information, and secrets for new and returning Palians to familiarize themselves with to get them started on the best foot possible for Palia's The Elderwood expansion.

Free Access To The Elderwood

The Elderwood expansion officially launches on 13th May 2025 for all available platforms, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via the Epic Games Store, Steam, and the dedicated game launcher app. The expansion is free to all Palians, but it will require them to update the game on their preferred platform following the completion of the maintenance period.

Additionally, the expansion's launch also marks the arrival of the v0.191 patch notes, which add plenty of new bug fixes, gameplay, and feature adjustments and optimizations to give Palians the gameplay experience possible. The complete patch notes are available on the GINX site for Palians to view all the bug fixes, adjustments, optimizations, and new content included in the v0.191 patch update.

Quest Bars

So, the most important detail about the Elderwood expansion is what quests must or at least should be completed before entering the new Adventure Zone. Luckily, Friendship and most of the Main Story and side quests have little bearing, but a handful of quests are recommended by the developers that Palians should have or must complete.

According to the v0.191 patch notes, to gain entry to the Elderwood Adventure Zone, Palians must have completed the Temples questline; however, the Temple Vault bundles are not required to have been completed. In addition to the Temple questline, the developer stated that Palians are to have Fine Tools for the new Adventure Zones, likely to help when farming the new resources, so we have listed the quests that Palians are to complete below:

Do Enter Once On Board

The next important detail that Palians need to know before accessing the Elderwood Adventure Zone is where to find the main gates that connect the existing zones to The Elderwood. In the aforementioned patch notes, the main gates to the new Adventure Zone are located at The Outskirts in northern Bahari Bay between the Housing Plot gate and Tamala's House.

Palians can also use the Stable boards; however, there is a new change to this fast travel system, whereby Palians must discover and unlock the Stable boards in The Elderwood first for them to be available as a fast travel option. "Once you have found the Elderwood Central Stables, you’ll be able to use Stables throughout the world to travel directly to the Elderwood," and for their efforts in finding all the Stable boards in The Elderwood, Nai'o will gift Palians a blueprint (recipe) which allows them to craft a Stable signage for their Housing Plot (more details on this in a future guide)!

Tomb Raiding

Once they've arrived to The Elderwood, aside from exploring the new Main quests and Stable boards, which the Elderwood Central Stables should be a priority, there are a few new gameplay additions to discover. One such discovery is Artifacts, native to this Adventure Zone, which are typically found throughout Umbraan Shrines and Rummage Piles (more on these later), which, upon their first Artifact found, will give them the “Pieces of the Past” side quest that explains and guides them through this new in-game system.

Palians can bring these Artifacts to the Elderwood Central Stables, submit them to complete an Artifact set, and claim rewards attached to them. They can also trade Artifacts with each other if they have collected owned pieces, which can be done at the Elderwood Central Stables.

Other than Artifacts, there are also Relics for Palians to acquire, which are new equipment items that give them and their party members various buffs to take advantage of when tracking and looting Infected Essence, Fish, Forage, Insects, and huntable creatures. These Relics can be obtained by finding and submitting Artifacts, and handing over one Artifact will earn them Elouisa Fun Bucks, and this new currency can be exchanged for blueprints (recipes) to craft a Relic before equipping them, which will be further elaborated on in a separate guide.

Romancing The Stones

Two new mining resources are available within The Elderwood for Palians to begin hacking away at nodes littered throughout the Adventure Zone. The first is an Uncommon stone, Whitestone, that drops from mining stone nodes in The Elderwood, and yes, pop them in the Basic or Heavy Smelter to make Whitestone Slabs, for which the blueprint for these bars can be purchased from Hodari for 300 Gold, and having reached Mining Level 5.

Platinum, a new Rare ore, can be dropped from Platinum nodes that are only found in The Elderwood, as these ores can be refined inside the Basic or Heavy Smelter to make Platinum Bars, and the blueprint for these bars can also be purchased from Hodari for 5,000 Gold, after reaching Mining Level 10. The developer has also made global adjustments to various stones and ore, including Palium, whose nodes are now more abundantly found in The Elderwood, with Silver and Gold nodes spawning in Kilima Village and Bahari Bay, respectively.

Fawning Over Ancient Flora

A variety of new fauna and flora can be discovered in the open world of The Elderwood for Palians to collect or forage. These include new mushroom species, more flowers, a new crop to plant in their garden called Batterfly Beans, which a seed can be dropped when foraging, and Ancient Trees.

Unlike Flow Tree seeds obtained from the Ancient Galdur Statue, Ancient Tree seeds are likely to drop by chopping Ancient Trees, where they can also acquire Ancient Wood, and there's a chance that Ancient Amber may also be dropped. While exploring The Elderwood, make sure to look up as there's a new type of foraging item, Shootable Forage, for which Palians can use their Bow and Arrows to aim and shoot (or just chop a tree down) to acquire the two new foraging items, Honey and Kopaa Nuts.

Honey can be harvested from beehives located within Pine Trees in Bahari Bay and the Elderwood, while Kopaa Nuts can be collected from Ancient Trees alongside Ancient Wood and possibly Ancient Tree seed and Ancient Amber. Palians can utilize the Dowsing Rod to now track all the Rare, Epic, and Legendary foraging items in this Adventure Zone, for which two more Accomplishments have been added to those green thumb Palians "for collecting all Foragables within the Elderwood."

Shop Til You Drop

Singularity 6 has added more shopping opportunities for Palians in The Elderwood expansion/the v0.191 patch update, as not only did the Premium Store gain a new refresh with new arrivals debuting, but the Shop UI has been given a slight new look. When accessing the Premium Store menu, all available cosmetics have been categorized under four new tabs: Best Deals, Shop, Promotions, and Bundles, where limited-time offerings, sales, discounts, and more can be found within the Promotions tab, while Bundles offer discounted Outfit and Tool Skin bundles to acquire.

The Shop is the main tab for all cosmetic items, from Emotes, Landscapes, Outfits, Pets, Tool Skins, and more, and the Mystery Outfit Gift feature can also be found here within the Gifts sub-category. Along with this new redesign and refresh of the Premium Store, the v0.191 patch update added two new deal offerings: Starter's and Founder's Packs to show your love and support for the game and the developer, in which Palians can acquire unique items such as Palia Coins, Pets, Outfits, and more goodies!

But that doesn't stop there, as the developer has introduced two new NPC shops for Subira and Tamala when interacting with these Villagers. However, to unlock these new stores, Palians must complete two quests connected to The Elderwood questline, namely “Something Wicked” and "The Nature of Shadows" (more on these quests in future guides) by completing the objectives to unlock them and peruse their inventories to purchase new items, blueprints and more.

Easy Delivery At Your Service

While not included in The Elderwood expansion/the v0.191 patch update, it was mentioned in the aforementioned patch notes that a new in-game feature will be introduced much sooner than expected. The Courier Functionality is a new system that Palians can use to send a bevy of items directly to their storage, mainly Storage Chests on their Housing Plot, using their Pets!

"Each send-off has a brief, 10-minute cooldown, and you can expand capacity to eight slots total," of which four slots are unlocked by purchasing the Founder's Pack from the Premium Store and the remaining slots via a new Elderwood quest in the next patch update. This new feature makes various tasks more manageable, such as Bug Catching, Fishing, Foraging, and Mining runs less arduous when being overencumbered by a full backpack, in which they can enlist their Pets to deliver a few items home, freeing up a few backpack inventory slots.

Rummaging For New Hidden Treasures

Yes, Rummage Piles are coming to The Elderwood, as confirmed by the developer in the aforementioned patch notes, and Palians can find them in two locations daily. These locations will be the same for all Palians, like with the Kilima Village and Bahari Bay Rummage Piles, in which they can consult with this handy third-party site to find their locations before searching for them.

This time, there is a minor difference: instead of interacting with a Rummage Pile to claim a reward, Palians must dig up the dirt within the pile to unearth the reward. This will demand them to have a Gardening Hoe crafted and equipped using the Tool Wheel before they can start digging, in which one such reward Palians may claim from a Rummage Pile is an Artifact!
