Blizzard is improving on World of Warcraft in several ways with the Shadowlands expansion, and we are very excited for the Torghast Tower content, amongst other things. So far, we've only known the Shadowlands release date window to be "2020".
Now, the president of Blizzard Entertainment, J. Allen Brack, has narrowed the World of Warcraft: Shadowlands release date window.
World of Warcraft: Shadowlands release date
While a specific release date for the Shadowlands expansion is still unknown, J. Allen Brack has revealed the release date is on track for Q4 2020.
The alpha is already underway, but there's still a lot of work to be done.
Mr Brack explained:
"Our teams have done a really good job in shifting to work from home. We were able to welcome select players into the closed alpha for Shadowlands last month, and thanks to the hard work of the team, Shadowlands is on track to launch in Q4 of this year"
The World of Warcraft: Shadowlands release date window was revealed during Activision's first-quarter earnings call, which also revealed two new games from established IPs from the mega-publisher is coming this year.
The release date window for Shadowlands isn't unexpected, as the alpha has only been active for a month. There are still several untested systems, changes and content to add to the alpha.
World of Warcraft: Shadowlands has already seen strong pre-sales:
"We saw Western subscribers grow in March, driven by players returning to modern WoW primarily. This has contributed to strong pre-sales for Shadowlands. The momentum we saw in March across both modes continues, with the active community growing faster than it ever has, and that's outside of an expansion launch period."
At the time of writing, it is unclear when the Shadowlands pre-patch will arrive. Speculation is the pre-patch could arrive roughly the same time as the Shadowlands prequel novel, Shadows Rising, which is scheduled to release on 14th July 2020.
