With the release of World of Warcraft (WoW)‘s expansion pre-patch for The War Within, not everything went as planned. In fact, the wait for extended maintenance to end in some regions was both excruciating and infuriating.
While those in Europe enjoyed The War Within’s pre-patch content, such as the Radiant Echoes and the exciting Warbands feature, many just sat there waiting, especially in the North American region.

In a short but sweet post, Blizzard revealed that they will compensate players for the longer-than-expected downtime, stating:
We wanted to take a moment to recognize that the first day of the pre-expansion content update for The War Within resulted in extended downtime for many players in North American realms. In recognition of this, we’re adding one day of extra game time to every subscription in North America, Latin America, Australia and New Zealand for accounts which were active as of July 23, 2024.
How To Claim Free WoW Game Time
We’ve got some good news for you. There’s no action required to claim your free WoW Game Time of one day from this whole ordeal. Blizzard plans to provide this compensation to all affected players on or before 15 August 2024.
You will only get that free day of WoW Game Time if your account had an active subscription as of 23 July 2024 and your account is in one of the following regions:
- North America
- Latin America
- Australia
- New Zealand

The War Within releases on 26 August 2024 (or 22 August for those with Early Access), and hopefully, Blizzard will have ironed out any issues so that both the soft launch and full launch go smoothly.
