This long-awaited Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is fully out now, meaning players can finally hop into the game’s campaign, multiplayer, and even the co-op Spec Ops mode. Inarguably, the fresh Call of Duty release from Infinity Ward has taken the community by storm.
However, those who haven’t purchased it might wonder, “Is Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 worth playing?” Therefore, in this review roundup, we’ll discuss our opinion on Modern Warfare 2 so that you can make the right decision before shelling off your pockets.
Is Modern Warfare 2 Worth Your Money?
Yes, Modern Warfare 2 is one of the Call of Duty installments you should get your hands on. The most straightforward reason behind this is the significant changes Activision has implemented in the reboot.
This time, the developers have changed the weapon progression system and made adjustments to the perks’ counterpart, field upgrades, and kill streaks to keep things fresh. So without any further delay, here’s a detailed breakdown of what we’ve loved so far about Modern Warfare 2 Reboot.
The Modern Warfare 2 Campaign follow-up is packed with fresh gameplay sequences and new takes on the old-classic Modern Warfare characters. This sequel doubles down on a lot of those slow paces entertaining and more tactical encounters that we found pretty cool in the game. The Modern Warfare 2 Campaign is approximately six hours long, which keeps you heavily embroiled in the story all the time.
Thrilling Campaign Experience
Call of Duty’s Modern Warfare series has always been famous for its thrilling Campaign experience, and the latest one is no exception. Modern Warfare 2 Campaign launched almost a week before the Multiplayer, and this time around, Prince returns to Task Force 141 once again to lead the battles that no one else can fight.
Incredible Sound Effects and Music
Modern Warfare 2 music is iconic as it really gives a sense of urgency to the game’s storyline. Infinity Ward, the game developers, have built a whole new 3D audio engine that reacts according to the sequence, as you might expect from an advanced version of Modern Warfare 2. However, the only downside that many outlets have reported is that footsteps are still slightly too loud, which we have also experienced personally.
Stunning Cinematic Experience
The graphics and the visual experience are the best bit of the latest Modern Warfare 2 installment, thanks to seamless attention to detail and arousing lighting effects. Compared to the 2019 version, the game developers have introduced a bunch of new graphic settings and implemented so many changes, such as DLSS and FSR support for compatible graphics cards, bang-on upscaling and sharpening effects, etc.
Although Modern Warfare 2 2022 Reboot is an overall great package, there are a few things that we didn’t like about the game.
Repetitive MW2 Missions
The repetitive gameplay missions and some unnecessary new features have certainly disappointed us. Most of the time, you’ll be completing some objectives within the Campaign mode with the same guns and the same people.
Moreover, the campaign story is a bit short, as you’ll need approximately six to eight hours to complete the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 campaign from start to finish.
Multiplayer’s Minimap Redesign Controversy
In the previous Call of Duty games, players were highlighted on the mini-map with red dots when they sprinted or fired their weapons. Unfortunately, the feature has been removed from Modern Warfare 2, and this change has disappointed a lot of MW2 fans, including us. As of now, the red dots will now only appear when a UAV is active.
The minimap in #ModernWarfare2 is NOT a traditional minimap.— ModernWarzone (@ModernWarzone) September 15, 2022
Meaning that players will not appear as red dots when firing on your mini map even if they aren’t using a suppressor.
Activision stated that the design reason for this is that they do not want to punish players for firing their weapons. Obviously, this explanation didn’t sit well and, therefore, received strong criticism for this decision.
Our Verdict on COD MW2
Modern Warfare 2 Reboot is definitely worth buying, in our opinion. However, the game is priced a bit high, especially since the missions can get repetitive, and you’ll be using the same guns with the same people and the same objectives within the Campaign mode. Overall, though, it’s evidently an impressive package considering the previous iterations of Modern Warfare 2 and how addictive the title is.
