Your complete guide to joining, switching and rejoining a Covenant in World of Warcraft: Shadowlands.
Shadowlands Covenants: How to join, switch and rejoin

Picking a Covenant which fits your needs in World of Warcraft: Shadowlands can be a difficult decision, and there's a chance you might pick the wrong one on your first go. In this guide, we will walk you through the process of joining a Covenant, switching Covenants and the most difficult of all, rejoining a specific Covenant in Shadowlands.

How to join a Covenant

After you've read our guide to Shadowlands Covenants, you have a good idea of what they stand for, the area which they rule, rewards, Renown and Signature abilities.

Once you've reached level 60 and completed the campaigns for the four zones, it is now time to join a Covenant. While picking one might be tough, joining one is relatively simple. You will receive a quest in Oribos entitled "Choosing Your Purpose" from the NPC Tal-Inara (location: 39.9 / 70).

You will then be directed to speak to the four Covenant leaders in Oribos, namely:

  • Kyrian - Polemarch Adestres
  • Necrolords - Baroness Draka
  • Night Fae - Lady Moonberry
  • Venthyr - General Draven

After you've spoken to the leaders of each Covenant, you can head to the Shadowlands Covenant Map.

The map is located near the Tal-Inara NPC who gave you the original quest. Pick one and turn in the quest Choosing Your Purpose.

The Covenant leader in Shadowlands will then have a quest for you, so pick it up before heading to your new Sanctum. By following these steps, you've now joined a Shadowlands Covenant.

How to switch Covenants

Let's say you've made a mistake, or simply want to experience a new Covenant. There's an easy way to switch Covenants in Shadowlands simply by following the steps below.

  • Go to Oribos and talk to the leader of the Covenant you want to join.
  • The leader will ask you twice to confirm if you want to switch Covenants in Shadowlands.
  • Pick up the quest from your new Covenant leader to head to your new Sanctum.

While switching Covenants is an easy task in Shadowlands, rejoining one is definitely not.

How to rejoin a Covenant in Shadowlands

Last but not least, you will need to know how to rejoin a Covenant in Shadowlands. This will happen when you've previously joined one, for example, Necrolords, then switched to Kyrian. Now, you want back into Necrolords. This is where things get tricky.

If you do decide to rejoin a Covenant, you will need to prove your worth, as leaving in the first place will be seen as an act of betrayle. Therefore, you will need to complete two consecutive weekly quests which are quite grinding before you can rejoin a Shadowlands Covenant.

First up, speak to the leader of the Covenant located in Oribos. Accept the quest "Prove Your Worth" which includes:

  • Killing 17 Rares
  • Killing 13 Rare Elites
  • Finding 13 Treasures
  • Completing 13 World Quests
  • Completing 17 Daily Quests
  • Completing 9 Dungeon Quests

The image below showcases the quest you need to complete in order to rejoin the Necrolords Covenant.

You need to complete all these quests in the zone controlled by the Covenant in question. Be sure to turn in the Prove Your Worth quest before the next reset.

Lastly, once the Weekly Reset is done, the Covenant leader will have another quest called "Rebuild Our Trust". This quest is exactly the same as "Prove Your Worth", so you will need to do it all over again to finally rejoin the Covenant of your choosing.
