Whether Call of Duty Warzone 2 will be cross-gen or not and which platforms the game is launching on are among the big questions surrounding the game. Despite planning to skip a year, Activision has a lot of things planned for fans, including a brand new successor to 2020’s Warzone, COD Warzone 2.
The studio confirmed the game’s existence earlier this year and with it, many have started to wonder if Warzone 2 will be cross-gen or not. So, in this guide, we will explain whether Warzone 2 is cross-gen or not and also list down all platforms the game is coming on.
Will COD Warzone 2 be cross-gen?
The new generation of consoles has been around for almost three years now, and despite this, they are still the most sought after pieces of hardware. Gaming studios have been steadily making the switch over to new-gen exclusive releases; however, that number has stayed low.
As for Activision’s upcoming game, COD Warzone 2 will be cross-gen and release on both the older generation as well as the shiny new ones. This bit of confirmation comes via none other than Activision themselves.
In their recent blog, Activision confirmed that starting from October 28, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II is scheduled for release on PlayStation® 5, PlayStation® 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PC Battle.net, and PC Steam. Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0 is scheduled for release later this year on the same platforms.

So, it’s clear that despite the older leaks, Warzone 2 will see a cross-gen release. The studio has already confirmed that Warzone 2 will be releasing later this year, 2022, following the launch of Modern Warfare 2 on October 28. However, no exact dates have been shared as of now.
COD Warzone 2 All Platforms
Here’s a look at all the platforms COD Warzone 2 is slated to release on:
- Xbox Series X|S
- PlayStation 5
- PC
- PlayStation 4 and Pro
- Xbox One X and S
It looks like Activision has decided to make Warzone 2 available to older consoles in a bid to boost sales, as past releases have failed to meet expectations.
Will COD Warzone 2 Release on Steam
With Modern Warfare 2 coming on Steam almost after five long years, there are speculations that Warzone 2 could follow the same route. Activision has been trying to adapt more player-friendly routes and this looks like the ideal way to go. As per a recent blog post, the studio said, “Call of Duty is coming back to Steam on PC starting with Modern Warfare II.” This is a very clear indication that the upcoming COD games will be available on Steam again and so for now we can expect Warzone 2 to release on Steam.
