For many World of Warcraft (WoW) players, a new expansion isn’t just about getting to the latest raid or completing the story quests. Sure, it’s a huge part of it, but WoW’s PvP has always had a huge following, and a new map is an exciting prospect. That’s where The War Within‘s new battleground, called Deephaul Ravine, comes into play.
Blizzard has shared the first official details about Deephaul Ravine, including the battleground’s victory conditions, how it works, and the layout of the PvP map so you can plan those Rated Battleground strategies for The War Within Season 1.
WoW Deephaul Ravine Layout & Details
First off, Deephaul Ravine is a 10v10 Payload-style battleground (8v8 for Battleground Blitz mode) located in The Ringing Deeps. You can start playing the battleground when The War Within releases, but you must be at least level 71 to compete, and most of the action will take place at level 80 as an endgame activity. The victory condition is simple: the first team to get to 1,500 points wins the match.
A bit of lore text explains what Deephaul Ravine is all about, setting the stage for conflict between Ruffious the Unbound Earthen and Foreman Uzjax:
Ruffious the Unbound Earthen has big plans for the ore and gems found in the Deephaul Ravine, but the Machine Speakers of the Earthenworks are quite possessive of such precious materials. Foreman Uzjax and his team plan to secure these materials before Ruffious and his band of misfits get their hands on it.
So how does Deephaul Ravine work, exactly? Well, there are two (2) mine carts that spawn on the opposite sides of Deephaul Ravine and follow the tracks.
Teams can fight to control these mine carts to get a consistent flow of points and capture them from enemies for a nice burst of points.
Then, there’s the Deephaul Crystals. These spawn in the middle of the map and can be carried to the capture points on opposite sides of Deephaul Ravine to score a bunch of points. As mentioned earlier, the first team to reach 1,500 points wins the battleground!
