COD Advanced Warfare 2: Release Date, News, Leaks & More

Call of Duty continues to be one of the most popular video game franchises in the market, and it may be time for another step into Advanced Warfare. If the escalating hype for Modern Warfare 2 or Warzone 2 is any indication of the current CoD hype, things might continue to be the same.

While Call of Duty's current roadmap is pretty stacked on its own, it's always exciting to speculate what's next. Interestingly, details on Sledgehammer Games' next Call of Duty title have surfaced online. This new CoD title will reportedly be a sequel to 2014's Advanced Warfare.

5 December 2022: Advanced Warfare 2 in development?

A new report suggests that COD Advanced Warfare 2 is not in development. However, nothing has been confirmed by Activision.

This new piece of info comes from whatifgaming's RalphsValve. According to Ralphs, "Sledgehammer Games aims to strip away from World War shooters, and instead return to the battlegrounds of the future."

The Advanced Warfare sequel is reportedly being built on the IW 9.0 engine (MW  2 engine) and will target a 2025 release window.

Earlier this year, Activision Blizzard suggested that Call of Duty would be ditching its annual release model for an "always on" model, with many speculating no premium releases in 2023.

If this turns out to be the case, Treyarch's next Call of Duty title should release in 2024, with the rumored Advanced Warfare 2 following it up in 2025.

While Treyarch's CoD next title is a mystery at the moment, it would most likely be another Black Ops title.

Many of the Black Ops games have had a futuristic setting, and if this continues in its next game, we will be getting two back-to-back futuristic CoD titles in the near future.

How will Advanced Warfare 2 affect Warzone 2?

The most rhetorical question in-regards to Advanced Warfare 2 is how it would influence the upcoming Warzone 2. Warzone continues to be one of Call of Duty's most successful endeavors to date, raking in huge numbers even two years after its initial launch.

Every new mainline CoD entry since the release of Warzone has added new content to CoD's popular battle royale game. This includes new weapons, skins, operators, and more.

With Advanced Warfare 2 allegedly taking CoD back into the future, it would be most interesting to see how it impacts Warzone 2. Will we get a new BR map set in space? Will futuristic gadgets and tools from Advanced Warfare 2 come to Warzone 2? Most importantly, how would these supposed additions affect the game's battle royale formula?

While it's exciting to speculate, sadly, we will have to wait for an official update from Activision Blizzard to find out more.
