Rust 2 Release Date Window Speculation

Rust was released on 11 December 2013, meaning it's been almost ten years since the release of the original Rust title. Considering that it was only just announced that Rust 2 is in development and it won't use the Unity Engine, it could be several years before Rust 2 is finally released.

We could expect a Rust 2 release in 2025 or onwards, given what we know so far about the game's development. However, this is entirely speculative, and we'll be sure to update this article as soon as developers announce a specific release date.

Is Rust 2 In Development? What's Next For The Franchise

According to a recent update from developers, Rust 2 is in development. Developers stated that the new title would not use the Unity engine, as the team has "lost their trust" in the engine after a recent controversy.

"We had 10 years to make our own engine and never did; I'm sure a lot of game companies are feeling the same today," said Rust's developers in a blog post on their website. "Let's not make the same mistake again. Rust 2 definitely won't be a Unity game."

This means that the team will need to develop Rust 2 in an all-new engine, perhaps one made by their own team, since the first game did, in fact, use the Unity Engine. While it's great news that a new game is in the works, development on a new engine could comparatively take a lot of time.
