Battlestate Games

Battlestate Games has finally released abundant information regarding the upcoming Escape from Tarkov Arena, showcasing game modes, maps, and arena functionality. Due to the overt pressure placed on Battlestate Games by Escape from Tarkov fans, the developers have been forced into a position to release an absurd amount of content in minimal amounts of time. For those that don't know, during the early days of July and August Escape from Tarkov fans were taking to YouTube explaining their popular opinions on why Escape from Tarkov was failing. Fortunately, Battlestate Games took notice of fans' popular opinion.

Battlestate Games placed themselves in a testing position, making promises to fans to release further information on content on the roadmap and promising that the Arena is coming soon. Personally, I think Battlestate Games forcing accountability is great, there are no more "coming soon... maybe" releases and teaser trailers anymore, and we know that great content is dropping soon. This leads to today's topic, Escape from Tarkov Arena maps, and believe me, it's amazing what's coming. Battlestate Games is releasing four initial maps for Arena, however, there is information showing new maps that will be coming later.

Sawmill

Sawmill is an exciting map coming to Escape from Tarkov arena due to the fact players are being forced into the depths of the most hated map, Woods. Players will be forced to face their fears head-on, running through the brisk and unforgiving rural location with the ambition of being victorious. Fortunately, Sawmill won't feature our favorite scav boss, Shturman, meaning players can finally battle each other without the worry of hearing the deafening 7.62x54R rounds being fired at yourself and friends. However, Sawmill provides an interesting location due to the vegetation, players can take different approaches to combat and perhaps take things a little slower than compared to more traditional urban environments.

Battlestate Games have given Sawmill the following breakdown "An old private sawmill on the outskirts of Tarkov. Rumored to be a concealed backup TerraGroup Labs command post with an autonomous control system." Perhaps giving alternative aspects of the map we didn't expect, such as minefields and heavy-machine guns to protect certain locations. We know that TerraGroup was protective and great at hiding their experiments, leading to the possibilities of interactive environments and further additions to the map to enhance PVP.

BAY5

Escape from Tarkov Arena provides a unique experience with the maps because of the wide plethora of different locations. Some of them share similarities to current maps, detailing and furthering Escape from Tarkov lore, others are completely new such as BAY5 opening newer avenues for the developers and feel for the players. BAY5 is set in a shipping cargo location, where containers and work areas have been transformed into death's playground, with players battling each other to survive and spectators enjoying and watching gladiators battle. The location looks incredibly bright and sunny, bringing questions about changing weather conditions on the map as a possibility; wouldn't it be great to fight in the middle of a storm on BAY5?

Battlestate Games have described the location as "A former TerraGroup Labs secure cargo warehouse in the port area. An iconic location with a new look." Being another TerraGroup location we can hope for some level of an interactive location, whether it be mountable weapons, pressing admin buttons to trigger a reaction (like labs gates), or simply gaining a minor advantage over your enemy. BAY5 looks like Battlestate's most innovative Arena experience because it shares little similarity with any other Escape from Tarkov project, meaning the developers have tried to explore new avenues with the Bay location and beach-ish area.

Air Pit

Escape from Tarkov Arena's Air Pit appears incredibly ambitious, with a unique and interesting map layout for players to explore. The map gives Killhouse vibes from Modern Warfare, with the location being situated inside an open "hall" with very simple map dynamics; run forward and kill. Air Pit looks more appropriate for the Overrun game mode being introduced to Arena, where players are forced to kill waves of AI and extract the location, the reason for this is that Air Pit appears to be very team-based, with players having lots of defending opportunities and a large area to operate. However, other game modes such as Shootout and Teamfight look like they'd be perfect for Escape from Tarkovs Air Pit.

Battlestate Games has described the map as "A terminal hall of the city airport, transformed by local thugs into the Arena for death fights." For those who don't know, there's an unreleased map for the main title Escape from Tarkov called Terminal, located next to Shoreline. Perhaps this is a small feature of what to expect from the upcoming map similar to Sawmill for Woods. Despite no information being released about Terminal on the main Escape from Tarkov title, Air Pit could have a huge impact on Battlestate Games' desire to complete the map for the main game depending on fan feedback.

Equator

Equator and Air Pit feel very similar because they're both enclosed inside a large 'mall' type building, however, Equator appears like a slightly smaller map than Air Pit. Battlestate Games have smashed the overall appearance of Equator, especially by placing scavs in the spectating areas to view the PMCs and warriors' battle making it feel like Escape from Tarkov's unique colosseum. The map overall looks somewhat interactive, although due to the smaller size, I can't imagine any mountable weapons or similar aspects.

Battlestate Games has detailed Equator as "A makeshift Arena for gladiator fights, redesigned out of the Equator-2 shopping mall." Verifying that the map has been designed for gladiators giving it the Roman feel, however, the types of game modes and map specifics are currently unknown due to the lack of information on the Equator. Like BAY5, Equator isn't directly related to any potential upcoming mainstream maps on Escape from Tarkov, perhaps you can make links between the upcoming map "Town" located between Woods and Lighthouse where the Equator Arena map might make a feature, however, these details are just speculative.

Upcoming Escape from Tarkov Arena Maps

Battlestate Games has a couple of map names available on the Escape from Tarkov Arena website, except these are future maps that haven't been properly disclosed to the player base, meaning we only know their name currently. The following maps are planned for Escape from Tarkov Arena but are released immediately and have few release details:

  • The Bowl
  • The Box
  • Resort

Based on the map names we can't predict much due to their vagueness, however, the Resort couple possibly be an Arena adaptation of Chalet on Lighthouse or something very similar. Despite little details being released on the future of Arena, these upcoming maps are a symbol of Battlestate Games progress, showing ambition and loyalty to the player base once again. It's safe to say Battlestate finally understands the consequences of leaving their player base in the dark for elongated periods of time, forcing them to be slightly more responsive to player demands. We shouldn't knock Battlestate Games at all, after all, they're responsible for a game we all love.
