All Tarkov Arena Game Modes, Explained
Battlestate Games

Battlestate Games for the last several months have been leaving Escape from Tarkov players in the dark, depriving us of valuable information on upcoming changes. However, in the last weeks, Battlestate Games have released endless supplies of information regarding upcoming changes, features, and most importantly, Escape from Tarkov Arena. Since the 24th of August, players have had the opportunity to pre-order Escape from Tarkov Arena for €37.00 on the official Escape from Tarkov Arena website. Additionally, Battlestate Games has released further information containing the contents of Escape from Tarkov Arena, mentioning maps, game modes, and other interactive experiences.

The website mentions several different game modes coming to Arena upon release with a brief explanation of how the game mode will work. The explanation, despite being vague, has opened up newer avenues of information for the Arena game mode. Most players assumed the Arena would contain PVP gameplay, such as team deathmatch, deathmatch, and perhaps other fan-favorite "Call of Duty" style approaches, however, a new game mode suggests players team up solely to destroy an AI faction within the Arena.

Shootout Mode

Firstly on the list, we have the new upcoming Escape from Tarkov Arena Game Mode, shootout. The developers have described the mode as a "Round robin tournament - each team plays against each other in solo, duo, or trio modes. The two teams with the most victory points meet in the final to determine the winner of the tournament." This shows that we're receiving a competitive game mode within Escape from Tarkov Arena, players are going to progress alongside their team through rounds of different enemies and battle them in the arena.

This mode of course sounds incredibly competitive; considering the matches are "round robin," this game mode will last the longest period of time due to the volume of aspects that are included within competition-based matches. For those who don't know, "round robin" is a tournament layout where all teams take turns to play each other and whoever has the most wins archives tournament victory, therefore, explaining why the game mode length could be long.

Shootout will contain the option to play alone, duo, or trio modes, meaning the volume of players per team is very minimal. Despite being a tournament and encouraging a higher amount of players to participate per team, Battlestate has decided that 1-3 people per team is currently enough, however, with enough feedback, this can be altered.

Team Fight Mode

Team Fight is the team deathmatch mode we're all incredibly familiar with, five players against five players with several rounds of gameplay. In Battlestate Games description "2 teams of 5 players fight for victory in 7 rounds. Capturing objective points on the map after the timer expires will also lead to victory in the round." Players are not going to be respawning instantly within Team Fight and instead, Battlestate is taking a "Counter-Strike" approach, having each team complete an objective to win a round or destroy the enemy team to prevail.

Escape from Tarkov wouldn't feel right having the stereotypical team deathmatch environment with players respawning immediately, especially within a team environment. Escape from Tarkov is tactical and death highlights your mistakes, therefore, not providing a consequence (not being able to respawn) would take the Escape from Tarkov "feel" out of Arena mode. The objective within Team Fight currently isn't known, although, holding a specific location or setting a bomb down sounds pretty standard in most cases for game modes like this.

Overrun Mode

Overrun is an interesting concept out of the new game modes, being the new player vs. environment setting being introduced into the Escape from Tarkov Arena mode. Battlestate Games describes Overrun as containing "PvE missions for 5 players. The goal of the team is to clear the location from waves of enemies, complete the given objective, and evacuate to a safe zone." Overrun is very obviously more of an adventure within Arena, leading to more interactive and team-based experiences than typical matchmaking.

We expect the Overrun game mode to explore the Arena maps in further detail, leading players to new experiences and locations on each map to extract or complete the Overrun objective. Overrun is going to provide an incredibly great environment for friends to "relax" on Escape from Tarkov, taking the fear of "real players" out of the equation and allowing friends to enjoy immersive experiences against AI players that currently aren't available within Escape from Tarkov. The mission of Overrun seems relatively simple, waves of AI are coming to destroy you and your friends, therefore you must destroy them. This leads to the thought of the introduction of a new Escape from Tarkov Arena bosses or AI enemies to face in this mode.

Last Hero Mode

The Last Hero on Escape from Tarkov Arena seems to be described as the typical free-for-all game mode, having solo players battle each other until they reach the maximum score. Battlestate's description of Last Hero states "Deathmatch between multiple players. The goal of each player is to score the most kills in the allotted time," Literally describing free-for-all perfectly.

Last Hero will be a great way for players to experience Escape from Tarkov alone, as most players struggle to enjoy Escape from Tarkov without friends due to the abundance of teams. It's very unlikely friends will be able to join each other in Last Hero matches due to farming issues and potential exploits, however, the game mode will still be enjoyable nonetheless.

Duel Mode

Escape from Tarkov Arena website also showcases another game mode coming to the DLC. However, the title of "Duel" is mentioned with no detailed description, pictures, or additional information regarding information on the mode. Therefore, it shows that Battlestate Games isn't releasing Arena in its fullest entirety, however, it's great to see that upcoming content and game modes are already being planned and featured on the site to hype players up.

The title "Duel" doesn't seem too particularly hard to predict, with players currently speculating that Duel is a 1vs1 competition similar to the "Shootout" mode. Except, we shouldn't focus on plans that are going to be a while, especially if all this new content is dropping so soon!
