Many World of Warcraft (WoW) players have wondered when dragonriding, the dynamic flight system introduced in Dragonflight’s Dragon Isles, will be coming to old-world content, such as Outlands, Northrend, and more.
Well, we’ve got some good news to share, as Dragonriding is coming to old-world WoW content/zones much sooner than expected. Let’s swoop in!
Update on 15 January 2024: Dragonriding in the old world zones are now a thing with the release of the Seeds of Renewal update.
WoW Dragonriding in Old World Zones Confirmed
Many players thought that Dragonriding in the old world continents and expansions such as Pandaria, Outland, and Northrend are a very long way off, possibly only releasing with The War Within expansion.
Well, looks like Blizzard is ahead of schedule on this one, as Dragonriding is coming to World of Warcraft’s old zones all across Azeroth and beyond with the WoW 10.2.5 update, aka the Seeds of Renewal patch! In a teaser for the next big wow update, Blizzard states:
The skies of Azeroth and beyond can be yours in the saddle of your dragon. In Dragonflight: Seeds of Renewal, Dragonriding will be expanded to all old-world continents wherever flying is available.
Blizzard further explained that Dragonriding won’t be exactly as fast in the old world zones compared to the Dragon Isles:
We are restricting the speed of dragonriding outside of the Dragon Isles in order to not make travel times on old world contents trivially short. We believe 80% dragonriding speed will strike a balance between giving players exciting and engaging traversal, while still preserving a sense of immersion. The Dragon Isles continent is pretty massive compared to some of our older continents, so we need to adjust speed accordingly.
You can already test Seeds of Renewal on the PTR until 29 November 2023, so don’t miss out! There’s even an Outland Cup to compete in, a Dragonriding race!
WoW Old World Dragonriding Release Date Speculation
At the time of writing, there’s no specific release date for Dragonriding to come to the old continents of WoW. However, with the update already on the PTR, we don’t expect you to wait six months.
Specifically, we know the Seeds of Renewal update will be released before Valentine’s Day 2024, as the highlights of the update, which you can see in the image above, include Love is in the Air event for 2023!
We will endeavor to update this article as soon as an official release date for the WoW Seeds of Renewal update, and thereby, Dragonriding in the old continents of WoW becomes available.
