Warzone Season 5 AR Tier List - Best Assault Rifles In COD

Call of Duty: Warzone Season 5 boasts an expansive content roadmap, including five new gun additions and many weapons receiving nerfs and buffs. In particular, we've seen a few changes to the ARs (assault rifles) in the game, and if you want to know more, we have you covered.

As you might expect, weapon balance updates to the AR weapon class often trigger massive shifts in the overall gun meta. As a result, we will walk you through our tiered list of the best meta assault rifles to use in Warzone Season 5, ranking them all from best to worst.

Raven Software clarified that the primary focus of Warzone Season 5 has been to "[widen] options even further by addressing the top performers to be more in-line, along with lifting both individual weapons and classes of weapons that are under-utilized."

This approach is seen in the changes made to the ARs in Warzone Season 5. And to fully understand how we've organized our tiers for all the ARs, here's a quick summary of what each tier represents.

Tier rank description:

  • S-Tier: This tier comprises the popular "meta" weapons. Most competitive players will stick with these picks until something better comes along. They are nearly flawless and boast insane damage.
  • A-Tier: These assault rifles are similar to S-Tier, but with minor differences in consistency and power. These weapons are made even more powerful with the right loadout.
  • B-Tier: This is the middle tier of assault rifles. These guns are still usable, but they require the proper attachments. So depending on the loadout, expect to lose some uneven fights.
  • C-Tier: This is the level at which weapons begin to degrade in quality. Attachments can help, but these assault rifles are mostly for fun. You can make some great plays, but you're going to lose a lot of fights.
  • D-Tier: Weapons that should be avoided at all costs. They're not competitive, and playing with them is unpleasant due to their lack of power.

Note: This tier list will be ranked based on the most recent Warzone Season 5 balance changes. The goal is to create a tier list that reflects the current meta as accurately as humanly possible; however, this list is also based on the author's opinion of the meta.

S-Tier Assault Rifles

  • Grau 5.56
  • XM4

  • Krig 6

  • C58

  • EX1

  • Vargo 52

  • Automaton

  • AK-47 (BOCW)

  • STG44

  • Fara 83

With the Grau 5.56 receiving the most beneficial and pertinent buffs, it held its spot in the top tier of the assault rifle class in Warzone Season 5. The Vargo 52 and STG44 have also received buffs; they aren't expected to change the meta surrounding the guns, which leaves the S-tier somewhat unchanged compared to Season 4. For now, the all-new EX1 laser rifle fits here, so long as players use the correct barrel and don't try to beam others from extreme distances.

A-Tier Assault Rifles

  • EM2

  • Kilo 141

  • Cooper Carbine

  • Nikita AVT

  • Vargo-S

  • NZ-41

  • Grav

  • BAR

  • AS44

  • QBZ-83

  • M4A1

  • CR-56 AMAX

The Cooper Carbine took a knock in its recoil control, but it's still a solid weapon to use in Warzone Season 5. The BAR has seen a slight buff, but it isn't expected to make much difference regarding its place in the meta. Finally, the Vargo-S has received a notable damage buff, putting it in high contention to move towards the S-tier as the meta develops.

B-Tier Assault Rifles

  • KG M40

  • RAM-7

  • AS VAL

  • ITRA Burst

  • Volk

  • M13

We see the KG M40 moving from A to B-tier after a major nerf robbed the weapon of some crucial damage and speed stats. However, the rest of this tier has remained unchanged in Warzone Season 5.

C-Tier Assault Rifles

Despite getting a minor buff, the Groza is still relatively ineffective. (Picture: Activision)
  • AN-94

  • FFAR 1

  • Groza

  • FN Scar 17

Even though the Groza has received an increase to its minimum damage, it's certainly not enough to place this weapon any higher in our tier list. As a result, the C-tier is almost unchanged for Season 5.

D-Tier Assault Rifles

The D-tier weapons such as the Oden remain unchanged this Season and should still be avoided if possible. (Picture: Activision)
  • Oden

  • FAL

  • FR 5.56

  • AK-47 (MW)

There were no changes to the D-tier assault rifles; these weapons are unlikely to be tuned before the release of Warzone 2. You can always try out a fun loadout with one, but don't expect to outshoot an equal player with something like the Vargo 52.

And that's it for our tier list of all the ARs as we kick off Warzone Season 5.
