Is Cyberpunk 2077 Worth Playing In 2022 After The New Update?

Cyberpunk 2077's initial launch was an absolute mess. No one can deny that after all the issues it faced upon its release, the game was basically unplayable at times. As a result, it was branded one of 2020's biggest disappointments. Unfortunately, even after resolving the game’s many problems, its legacy was tarnished, and no one seemed to bat an eye, despite it being in better health.

Two years later, Netflix and Studio Trigger's Cyberpunk: Edgerunners debuted, swooning the world over the beauty of the unforgiving megalopolis, Night City, and the characters surviving the struggle of living in such harsh conditions. 

The animated series was a massive hit that had the world entranced by the wonders and mysteries of Cyberpunk 2077, leading the developers, CD Projekt Red, to pass twenty million sold copies of the game on Steam and counting.

Moreover, because of the massive success, CD Projekt Red announced Cyberpunk 2077's sequel, dubbed "Project Orion," a while later. But despite the boost in popularity, some wonder if the praise is worth its merits and if it's still worth investing time and money into playing the game. 

Is Cyberpunk 2077 Good In 2022? - The Resurgence

Resurgence, revival, resurrection? Call it what you may, but Cyberpunk 2077 was back in business. More surprisingly, this wasn't even because of the game; instead, it resulted from a marvelously-made animated series: Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, announced only a few months before debuting on Netflix.

However, rather than repeating the same mistake of exciting the masses for years (only to possibly disappoint), the subtle unveiling of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners was a perfect decision made by CD Projekt Red.

There wasn’t any pressure or point to prove. I mean, what else could Cyberpunk 2077 already lose that it hasn’t already? The series' relatively quiet release on Netflix helped the craftsmanship behind the show shine ever brighter, arguably leading to added success.

Of course, most of this success was due to Studio Trigger's and Netflix's impeccable work on the series, with the supervision of CD Projekt Red leading the show's focus.

Quite simply, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners was a work of art. From a compelling storyline that didn’t settle for less and was brutal and unforgiving to the end to visuals that most consider the top-of-the-line, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners had the world charmed.

Among all the animated series on Netflix, the standalone show stood out, rivaling Arcane and Dota: Dragon’s Blood. Although it’s debatable whether it’s better than the aforementioned titles, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners single-handedly had the world enthralled and further revived Cyberpunk 2077 because the series was based on the game.

With the newest update hitting the game and newly-found fans flocking to Cyberpunk 2077 following the series' success, the dawn of a new coming was afoot, all thanks to Cyberpunk: Edgerunners.

Cyberpunk 2077's New Update Is Worth Every Penny

Since Cyberpunk: Edgerunners’ debut, Cyberpunk 2077 has continually been growing its player base. The show did wonders for the title, helping it surpass The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt’s record of all-time peak concurrent players on Steam and selling over twenty million copies. Still, the burning question is if Cyberpunk 2077 is worth playing.

Firstly, if you’re hesitant about reliving the same mess that initially dissuaded you from playing Cyberpunk 2077, the game is much more polished now. Many of the pesky bugs and issues players had encountered upon playing at launch are seemingly non-existent.

Much of the gameplay is dynamic, fluid, and enjoyable, boasting exceptional visual and audio designs. CD Projekt Red worked tirelessly to salvage Cyberpunk 2077 and lift it to newer heights. And although the game’s narrative might not best The Witcher 3’s, it’ll still have you feeling mixed emotions throughout your time playing. 

The latest Edgerunners patch has brought many new features to the game. While these don't necessarily shroud the marvels beneath, they accentuate the qualities Cyberpunk 2077 grew to have.

With Cyberpunk 2077 Patch 1.6, players could dive into various quests, including one allowing them to acquire David Martinez’s iconic jacket from Cyberpunk: Edgerunners. In addition, new weapons, features, character customization, and more were implemented in this patch, tying the game with the animated series that brought it back to life.

So, if you’re looking for an excuse or, at the very least, a good reason to play Cyberpunk 2077 again or even for the first time, now’s a great opportunity. The game is definitely worth playing and will have you entertained for hours on end.
