DayZ Toxic Zone Guide: Loot, Duration, Sickness Cure, More

Planning to venture into the Toxic Zones of DayZ? Well, then, you'll need to be prepared for a hazardous journey through deadly gas, hazardous waste, and powerful infected enemies. However, exploring these zones may be worth it for the high-quality loot pickups available.

This guide covers everything you need to know about DayZ's Toxic Zones, including loot, toxic gas effects, healing methods, survival tactics, and how to reap the rewards. Whether you're a seasoned player or a newcomer to the game, this guide will provide you with essential information to help you navigate these treacherous areas.

DayZ - Toxic Zone Guide: Gearing Up & Locations

To enter the toxic zone in DayZ, you must have the proper equipment. Without protective clothing, you will inhale the poisonous gas and eventually die without treatment.

To prevent this, you must acquire NBC gear, which includes an NBC suit, gas mask, filters, and other equipment as we've listed below:

  • NBC suit hood
  • NBC suit jacket
  • NBC suit pants
  • NBC suit shoes
  • NBC gloves
  • Gas mask
    • Combat gas mask
    • NBC breathing apparatus
    • Eastern Gas mask
  • Filters

It's important to note that just finding a gas mask is not enough, as you also need filters to breathe properly. Filters last around 60 minutes and should be removed when not needed.

You can find NBC suits and gas masks in places with medicine, such as hospitals, blue doctor’s offices, and abandoned medical camps. Military camps also have gas masks, filters, and other equipment.

In update 1.14, new camps were added at the Krasnostav airfield and Lovinia airport, with others scattered throughout the country. Once you have the appropriate gear, you can head toward the Toxic Zone locations in the game.

DayZ - Toxic Zone Guide: Loot and Gas Effect Durations

The Toxic Zones are dangerous for sure, and it's likely for that reason that they are also home to some of the best loot in the game. Here is a small list of the items you can find while searching through these hazardous areas.

  • The M4-A1
  • The VSS
  • The AKM
  • The SVAL
  • The Standardized suppressor.

These are just a few of the items you can find, and some will be random, so be sure to search every nook of the area while you're there. Speaking of, staying in the Toxic Zone for too long can be a huge problem, and if your gear fails (gas mask runs out), then you face getting sick.

While inside a contaminated zone, survivors are affected by two sources, these being the contaminated zone itself and the effects of gas poisoning being:

  • As soon as the player enters the zone they will start coughing; this will repeat every 6 - 10 seconds.
  • Every 13 - 18 seconds the player will get cut causing bleeding. Around this stage, the player can contract the gas poisoning illness or the "plague", which will start to stack its effects.
  • Contaminated zones will also kill all other types of infected and wildlife inside the zone.

DayZ - Toxic Zone Guide: Getting Sick and Curing It

Luckily, there are ways to combat the effect of the Toxic Zones if you get exposed to it and have enough time to do something about it. The first issue we'll look at is the bleeding which can be caused by objects in the world tearing into the suit, which can cause blood loss and lead to poisoning.

While Gas Poisoning and bleeding can be lethal, there are ways to survive the effects of the Toxic Zone. (Picture: Bohemia Interactive)

This issue can be negated by repairing the gas mask with a tire repair kit and using blood packs to regain health and stop your blood loss, just be sure you know your blood type and have the right blood on hand. But what if you do contract Gas Poisoning/the plague due to open wounds exposed to the poison gas?

Well, luckily, there's a way to cure this as well, and it comes in the form of a PO-X Antidote injector. While it's very rare to find these PO-X injectors just lying around, if you have one or two on hand, they can come in super handy when you're in a tough spot.

So there you have it, a full and comprehensive look at how to survive in the Toxiz Zones of DayZ. All while cashing in on the sweet loot available in these dangerous areas.
