What WoW players need to know about the Primal Storms event in Dragonflight Season 1, featuring some nice rewards, a Toy, gear upgrades and more.
WoW Dragonflight Primal Storms: Rewards, Gear Upgrades, Toy & More

We first saw the Primal Storms event during the pre-patch phase of World of Warcraft Dragonflight. With the Season 1 update, the Primal Storms event has returned, this time causing some chaos on Dragon Isles.

This article explains everything you need to know about the WoW Dragonflight Primal Storms event, from how it works to where the Primalist mobs spawn to what types of rewards you can get from participating.

Update on 13 March 2023: We've updated this article with the latest information on the Primal Storms event in WoW Dragonflight.

How The Primal Storms Event Works in WoW Dragonflight

Blizzard announced the return of the Primal Storms event, stating:

The Primalists are calling forth the harsh elements once again and causing Primal Storms to sweep across the Dragon Isles to destroy everything in their wake.

So what exactly is the Primal Storms event? Well, it is an outdoor event that spawns a bunch of mobs in certain areas. This time, Dragon Isles zones are afflicted.

The event takes place every six hours in two Dragon Isles zones. This invasion event features Elemental mobs and lasts for two hours. Once it ends, another one will begin six hours later in different Dragon Isles zones.

There's no questline involved. The goal of the WoW Dragonflight Primal Storms event is basically to grind mobs as much as you can for some decent rewards.

Mobs in the Primal Storms event can drop Elemental Overflow, which you can collect to purchase a full set of item level (iLvl) 359 armor for your preferred spec and class, alongside two pets (Stormie and Ghostflame) and the Stormhide Salamanther mount.

Further, these elemental mobs have a chance to drop Primal Cores, which can be redeemed for Storm Sigils from Rethelshi in Valdrakken. These Storm Sigils can be used to upgrade your gear to iLvl 385. Not bad!

There's also a Bag of Furious Winds toy that players can farm. It summons a vacuum above your character's head and sucks in critters for 10 seconds. This item has a 30-minute cooldown. Last, there's the Unstable Elemental Confluence Heirloom Trinket. This Heirloom Trinket has a chance of giving your abilities and spells "Primal Magic," basically dealing more damage and buffing your allies.

According to WoWHead, these mobs can also drop the Design: Elemental Lariat for Jewelcrafters, and Enchanters can get the following Formulas.

  • Illusion: Primal Air,
  • Illusion: Primal Earth
  • Illusion: Primal Fire
  • Illusion: Primal Frost

That's it for the Primal Storms event details in WoW Dragonflight released with the Season 1 update. At the time of writing, there's no indication when the invasions will end, but we suspect it will be sometime before the release of Season 2.
