With the recent announcements made at the COD Next event, we were given some insight into the new underwater combat mechanics that will be introduced into Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2. These new mechanics are set to change the way players interact with water and use it to gain advantages in battle.
So if you've been tearing up the new Modern Warfare beta or you're gearing up to jump into the games once they fully release, and want to know more about the water mechanics then keep reading. Below, you can find everything you need to know about the all-new underwater combat mechanics in Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 and by extension Warzone 2.
Underwater Combat Mechanics - CoD Modern Warfare 2
The water mechanics have changed drastically since the recent iterations of Warzone and Modern Warfare 2, with the physics in the game engine now simulating an authentic form of water, complete with rapid currents and cresting waves. The water in-game can be polluted, clean, murky, or have debris floating in it, adding more complexities to Aquatic Combat.
When the water level is deep enough, players can swim through the various water bodies in both titles. To dive underwater, you must change the operator's stance, look down, and sprint.
While in water, you will only be able to shoot enemies with a limited number of weapons, such as a pistol, as you will not have access to your primary weapon selection. In addition, players can take advantage of the water by diving beneath it to avoid enemy attacks.

Because the density of the water affects the weapon's projectile, players will need to lead their shots to be more accurate underwater. You can also swim underwater to find caches that have been submerged.
Water-based combat will become an important factor for tactical play and in Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2. Aside from the ability to hide, escape, and retreat into bodies of water, other tactical items can also be used strategically above and underwater to confuse, stun or ambush the opposing team from the water.
Fans are looking forward to seeing how new Tactical items such as the Shock Stick and Inflatable Decoy are used in water-based combat. You can also travel by boat and various other vehicles, such as the Rigid Inflatable Boat, which is best for traveling through narrow waterways, and the Armored Patrol Boat, which has a mounted.50 Cal Machine Gun.
Since both Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2 were built using the same engine, players can expect to see the new water mechanics being applied to both titles. So mastering the new mechanics will give you an edge regardless of which game you load up.
