Warzone Devs Fix Broken Taped And Leather Grip Attachments

Warzone's broken SMG attachments Taped Grip and Leather Grip have been fixed. RIP Movement Speed builds.

The latest Call of Duty: Warzone Season 4 patch saw a slew of changes, including a new Fortune's Keep map, new game modes, with a long list of nerfs and buffs to meta weapons and attachments. The developers also introduced three new guns: Vargo-S AR, UGM-8 LMG, and Marco 5 SMG.

After these content additions, Raven Software inadvertently broke the submachine gun class, with bugged Taped and Leather Grip attachment buffs resulting in menacing movement speed builds. This was particularly the case when paired with S-tier SMGs.

Followingly, Warzone developers nerfed the Taped and Leather Grip attachments' movement speed to better align with their "intended" values. This latest change was communicated by Raven Software's Senior Developer, Tully Ackland, via a Twitter post on 26th June 2022.

Specifically, the Taped Grip initially saw a 2% and 5% boost in Movement Speed and Sprint to Fire Speed, while the Leather Grip received ADS Move Speed and Hip Spread buffs by 10% and 2%; however, these values have since been changed.

"Taped Grip (and Leather) are now 'as intended.' I know that might come as a disappointment to some, but [I] will own up to the mistake - fostering a healthy skill gap is a goal, but this was pretty insane," Ackland said.

The developer continued, noting that "the primary goal of the attachment tuning was to enable choice when building a load out."

While Ackland emphasized that "some" increased mobility on the Taped Grip attachment is valuable for "gotta go fast builds," it's clear that the Season 4 adjustments were overly generous. Still, Ackland hinted that it could have potential as a limited-time game mode in the future.

Furthermore, the Taped and Leather Grip attachments might not be the only bugged items. Responding to a Twitter comment regarding the NZ41 AR being too "easy to control," Ackland said that the weapon is "not where [he'd] like it to be right now."

The Warzone dev added, "There are weapons designed to be easy to use, [and] the NZ isn’t one of them," citing in a different comment that they may have "over-indexed on the enhancements" to make the gun viable. This response subsequently fueled speculation of a potential NZ41 nerf.

While many Call of Duty players are unhappy about this latest change, we'll have to wait to see if any other unintended buffs will be nerfed soon.
