Diablo 2 Resurrected Horadric Cube: How to get and quest recipes

A guide to finding the Horadric Cube in Diablo 2 Resurrected, and the important quest recipes for this extremely powerful and useful relic.
Diablo 2 Resurrected Horadric Cube: How to get and quest recipes

Just like in the original Diablo 2, which was released over two decades ago, the Horadric Cube remains a must-have item in Diablo 2 Resurrected. There is no doubt this is one of the most iconic items ever, allowing players to transmute items. The Horadric Cube has hundreds of useful recipes for players to discover but first, they will actually need to find this unique item in Diablo 2 Resurrected.

In this guide, we will tell you exactly how to get the Horadric Cube, explain what it is used for in terms of quests, so let's get on with it.

How to get Horadric Cube in Diablo 2 Resurrected

First off, you will have to beat Act I, as the Horadric Cube in Diablo 2 Resurrected is found during Act II, and is required to progress further in the story.

This means it isn't an optional quest like rescuing Deckard Cain, which means you will need to kill Andariel first.

You will first need to find the Horadric Scroll to activate the Horadric Staff quest, by returning said scroll to Deckard Cain. This is found in a golden chest, within the sewers beneath Lut Gholein and guarded by a mob called Radament. Don't worry, this is just part of the standard journey.

Deckard Cain will task you with finding the Horadric Staff. Your first step is to get the Horadric Cube!

Follow the steps below to get your hands on the Horadric Cube:

  • Travel to one of the first open areas of Act II, Dry Hills.
  • First, search for and activate the waypoint, then search the map for the Halls of the Dead dungeon.
  • Make your way to level 2 of the dungeon and find the hidden waypoint, then down to level 3.
  • Search level 3 until you find Bloodwitch the Wild, then kill her and open the golden chest to get your hands on the Horadric Cube.

Remember, we can't pinpoint the exact locations, since Diablo 2 Resurrected's maps are randomly generated.

Return the Horadric Cube to Deckard Cain to initiate the next part of the Horadric Staff quest. Don't worry, old Deckard won't take the Horadric Cube from you, as it will be yours to keep.

The video from YouTuber Lutherals below shows how you can get the Horadric Cube.

You will need the item not only to complete Act II but Act III as well. This brings us to the quest recipes for the Horadric Cube in Diablo 2 Resurrected.

Diablo 2 Resurrected quest recipes for Horadric Cube

Throughout Diablo 2 Resurrected, you will come across two mandatory quests that require you to complete recipes with the Horadric Cube.

To complete Act II and fight Duriel, you will need the Staff of Kings, the shaft portion of the Horadric Staff, found in Maggot Lair. Then, you will also need th  Amulet of the Viper, the missing headpiece of the Horadric Staff found in the Claw Viper Temple. Once Deckard Cain has identified both pieces, simply put them in the Horadric Cube and transmute them into the Horadric Staff.

The next one is a bit of a spoiler, so we won't go into the exact details of which bosses to kill. However, we can tell you that you will require the Horadric Cube once again in Act III, and the unique flail Khalim's Will and four items will need to be added to the Horadric Cube in order to craft it.

Check out the video from YouTuber Nexius below showcasing how to craft the Horadric Staff in Act II.

The quest uses for the Horadric Cube in Diablo 2 Resurrected is just the tip of the iceberg. There are, for the lack of a better term, a plethora of recipes to use with the Horadric Cube.

What happens if you lose the Horadric Cube?

You can only have one Horadric Cube in your inventory, and on the same character. You also can't place one cube inside the other.

While you can pass down the Horadric Cube to a character that doesn't have one yet, what happens if you lose it?

Well, if you don't seem to have the item anymore (it can happen as you can drop it) you can follow the steps in the first section of this guide to get a new one by opening the Golden Chest in Hall of the Dead level 3 (no quest required).

If for some reason, you don't have the Horadric Cube and you are in Act II, likely due to skipping the quests as someone in your multiplayer match had the Horadric Staff, you can get a new Horadric Cube by defeating The Council in Act III.

It is imperative that all Diablo 2 Resurrected players get a Horadric Cube, so don't miss out.

As Deckard Cain explains when first getting the Horadric Cube: "Six gems plus one sword transmute into a socketed long sword. You may also transmute two quivers of crossbow bolts into one quiver of arrows, while two quivers of arrows yield one quiver of bolts. I must leave it to you to discover other formulae."

We will endeavour to bring you all the types of recipes and guides about this powerful relic in our Diablo section, so stay a while, and listen...
