In a seriously impressive feat, combining determination, skill and a bit of luck, the world first holy grail challenge in Diablo 2 Resurrected has been completed, roughly two months after the game's imperfect launch.
While some players challenge themselves with hitting level 99 or speedrunning through the game, others take on momentous tasks.
That's where the "holy grail" challenge comes into play, known by fans of the original as one of the most difficult (and a bit luck-based) player-created challenges out there.
What is the "holy grail" challenge in Diablo 2?
The holy grail challenge in the original Diablo 2, as well as Resurrected, tasks players with finding every single unique item in the game.
Items have to be dropped by enemies, so trading other players for one of these unique items are not allowed. Further, to verify a holy grail completion challenge, the person needs to record or stream all drops.
There are a total of 386 unique items available in the game, some of which have astronomically low drop rates, with Tyrael's Might (image above) being the rarest of the rare, having a measly 0.0006715% drop chance even with 300 Magic Find for a solo player, killing Baal on Hell difficulty.
World first Diablo 2 Resurrected holy grail challenge
Over the past two decades, the holy grail challenge remains one of the community's favourites, and in Resurrected, it is just as difficult to complete.
Enter Twitch streamer Enpherno, who managed to complete the first verified Diablo 2 Resurrected holy grail challenge in 438 hours and 52 minutes.
Since the game was released roughly two months ago, on 23rd September 2021, Enpherno had to play around eight hours a day, every day, to complete his unique item collection. The last item on his list was none other than the aforementioned Tyrael's Might!
Enpherno screamed "let's go!" and "is it over?" once he saw the Sacred Armor unique, losing his headset in the celebration and screaming with joy.
Quickly identifying the Sacred Armor as Tyrael's Might, his quest for the Diablo 2 Resurrected holy grail was complete.
Then, Enpherno proceeded to play another six and a half hours of Diablo 2 Resurrected, because those Ethereal items aren't going to find themselves.
The Tyrael's Might drop occurs at roughly the 1 hour 25-minute mark in the video below.
A big congratulations go out to Twitch streamer Enpherno for completing the holy grail challenge in Diablo 2 Resurrected. According to WoWHead, this also appears to be the fastest completion of the iconic challenge, not only in Diablo 2 Resurrected but in the original Diablo 2 as well.
Clearly, not all heroes wear capes! This is a seriously impressive feat and thanks to the time it took to complete, Enpherno might just hold the record for quite some time.
