Is Diablo 4 crossplay and cross-progression enabled?
Diablo's multiplayer modes have been the franchise's foundation since online play's popularity. However, now other vital features and mechanics, such as cross-platform play and cross-progression, have become the norm thanks to games like Call of Duty, Fortnite, Minecraft, and SMITE.

Since previous Diablo entries have not made this feature readily available, will Blizzard enter new territory with its next installment? We explore if Diablo 4 will be supporting cross-platform play and cross-progression support.

Will Diablo 4 have cross-play support?

Diablo players will be excited to know that the action RPG will launch in 2023 with support for cross-platform play. This was highlighted during the gameplay demo during the Xbox and Bethesda Games Showcase on 12th June 2022, where the developers noted that Xbox and PC players could party up to slay hellish foes.

In a 2021 interview with Windows Central, Lead Systems Designer Joseph Piepiora was asked if cross-play and cross-progression would be included in Diablo 4. Piepiora responded "emphatically yes" as he added that these features are just as important to players and the development team at Blizzard.

Furthermore, this was elaborated following the game's official announcement at BlizzCon 2019, where the game's executive producer Allen Adham explained their goal to bring cross-play to Diablo.

"We're very excited about cross-play. There are technical details and details to work through with the first parties, but it's our goal to get to cross-play," Adham revealed in an interview with The Telegraph.

With Blizzard bringing cross-platform play to the Diablo franchise in Diablo 4, similarly, cross-progression will be enabled for the action RPG. As revealed in the Xbox and Bethesda Games Showcase, it was also highlighted in the recent developer blog post immediately after the showcase.

"We are excited to announce that Diablo IV will launch in 2023 on Windows PC, Xbox One X|S, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4/5 and will host cross-play and cross-progression for all platforms. On console, players may also slay demons side-by-side with a friend through couch-co-op."

Players can begin their campaign to thwart the plans of Lilith with their chosen character and respective class across every available platform. Although it's unclear if this feature was tested out during the game's Closed Beta, which a date has yet to be announced, it would be a great opportunity for Blizzard to polish up these features before its release.
