If you were excited to finally start playing Diablo 2 Resurrected, you are probably disappointed now, because when the game is finally here, you can't enjoy it, as Diablo 2 Resurrected crashes on startup and is leaving you with an error message.
Why is Diablo 2 Resurrected crashing and can it be fixed? Let's find out.
First of all, you should keep in mind that Diablo 2 Resurrected has just been released, and many errors, bugs, and glitches are to be expected.
The second thing, despite technically being a 20-year-old game, this is a new release nonetheless, a remastered version of Diablo 2 with significantly improved graphics, network code, and a lot of other things under the hood.
The game has been modernized and optimized to run on contemporary operating systems and consoles, which means that many things in the game's code have been changed.
Why are we mentioning this? Because, the old PC you have been playing Diablo 2 on, might not be strong enough to run Diablo 2 Resurrected, and that's why the game is crashing.
Diablo 2 Resurrected puts upgraded 3D models atop the original Diablo II's 2D sprites, so we recommend you to check if your PC meets the system requirements.
Another thing that might be the issue is that you don't have up-to-date drivers, which can cause games to crash.
Here's what you should do in that case, as explained by Blizzard:
- Press Windows + R.
- Type DxDiag and click OK.
- After the DirectX Diagnostic Tool loads, click the Display tab.
- The video card's name and manufacturer are listed in the Device section. The current driver version is listed in the Driver section.
- Visit the driver manufacturer's website to obtain the most up-to-date driver.
- Contact the driver manufacturer for assistance with updating the driver. If the computer is under warranty, contact the computer manufacturer.
Finally, it should be noted that Diablo II: Resurrected has no Windows 7 support and you will not be able to play the game on that or any older Windows version. If you want to play Diablo 2 Resurrected, you need to have at least Windows 8 installed.
Ultimately, there may be a myriad of potential reasons why is your game crashing, as there are many things to fix at this stage. If nothing of the above helps, try to reinstall the game, check your internet connection and firewall, and restart your PC.
Hopefully, you will find what has been causing the problem and you will be able to enjoy the game without future problems.
